I've always wondered if you could do that, and I wonder if it would be costly?
My guess is that it wouldn't just include replacing the transmission only. I don't know about the rest though. |

depends on how much you pay for a trans. look to be spending around $1500-2500.

Do you only need to replace the Trans.?
I wonder if you have to change anything else to get a Camaro or TA to a manual. (Google isn't giving me a straight anwser...as always) Because my dad's 94 Camaro Z28 is automatic, and I was thinking one day weather it would be cheaper to buy a camaro like it that is manual or change the old one to manual. (Didn't mean to hijack the thread dobbins) |

you'll need the lines and peddle for the clutch along with custom work to get everything working. so on top of the trans expect to pay between 2-3k more to switch unless you do it yourself.

http://www.afrashteh.com/tranny_pics/T56.htm this was written up as a 94-97 swap, but it should carry over.

Dont waste your time...belive me. Its just too much work and you could just get a z28 or something like that for that kind of money (an older one of course)

sry guys haven't been up here in FOREVER but i still need some questions answered.
i would love nothing more than to have a V8 6spd BUT -im 17 still living with my parents -insurance would skyrocket -my 99 v6 looks and runs great sooo. my dad has all the abilities to do the swap he said we could do it in a weekend but what parts do i need and where do i find them? (besides the obvious transmission) the main reasons i want a stick is because i love driving them and driving a stick for a year would giving me plenty of experience before owning a 2010/2011 SS in a year or two

Then don't touch it. You just answered your own question.
It's a waste of time and money to do that with your V6. Simply because it's not a High power engine and there are lot of used V8 sports coupes. Would be easier just to find a manual car and trade it. I doubt your insurance would go up if any. They base on the replacement cost not the power nowdays. |

I would seriously sell the car for $4-$5k and take the $2-$3k you would spend on the swap and buy a nice '98-'99 SS, Z28, or Transam since you're really want one of those. |

Muh easier to start with a manual car to start with.
Remember, even the tranny has some computer controls so you may even need to swap out the computer to make everything work right.
