If you are not worried about carrying a few extra lbs. The LSX block is the strongest and the most bang for the buck. From there I would recommend a ERL Superdeck II block. This would be modifying your LS3 block with new sleeves and they do quite a bit of other modifications as well. I have used these well over 1200 RWHP. The next would be a RHS Block. This is a very nice piece but on the pricer side of the block selection. To take full advantage of the 6 bolt headed block I would also recommend an aftermarket head with this provision. Also after market heads will have a thicker deck surface which aids in clamping and preventing head gasket problems at high boost levels. I would also recommend switching from the standard ARP studs to there pro or L19 material. The Pro is what the send standard for the 6 bolt stud kits. Hope this helps. |

Agreed LSX is a stronger Block. Re-sleeving the LS3 can get pretty Pricy, but yes u get to keep the Lighter Aluminum and capable to push it hard if you want/need too... Ur Original LS3 probably worth around $2300-$2700 Buy purchasing another LS3 block as we discussed you can keep ur original or sell her for a profit. With the amount of Camaro's on the road, perhaps the numbers matching thing might not be as important. |

^^^ Easy Numbers.....
Just read in the FI V8 section that someone hit 703 rwhp/ 638 tq with a stock LS3 w/Cam only & bolt on's Kenne Bell 2.8L @ 9psi. With the potential of these engines, and the technology of the FI Kits out there, I'm going to be makin it mandatory for FI car's to go with Dual pumps as a minimum, or sign a waver that the BAP's are not recommended. I just don't trust these BAP's anymore... Do a complete build?, Engine and FI... I'll support it with a warranty... Clint |

ls3 block is worth prob around 3K in stock config. With that KB and the potential of it I would either bore it to a 418 but not a 427 from what I have read. Most of the engine builders seem to shy away from the 4.100 stroke under higher boost applications. Although keep in mind as you increase your displacement your boost actually goes down. LSX is aweful nice and aweful tempting. I assume you would be going 454 in that config or higher. What can you say...If you can afford it go for it. However, based on fasterfaster's recent crate engine lsx454 explosion on the dyno from Janetty I would build it from the block up rather than going with crate. Otherwise you will have to spend the money to tear it down and inspect before you do power adders anyway. No reason other than time down to go with a different ls3.... Seriously Joe...what is your real goals for this ride? 650 rwhp with the right set up will put you into the have to get a roll bar and other safety feature times at Bandi. Don't get me wrong..I would have more HP if I had more of a SC....lol But cost really go up when you cross the 750 rwhp line. I think you are on the right track though totally and really excited for you. 418 is safer than a 427 4.1 stroked ls3 for the supercharged application. If you were staying NA the 427 would be my choice. Larry

Those Kenne Bells are really setting the standard it seems.. He should have stroked it so he had torque to match his HP numbers....lol

I can't say I haven't thought about building a solid NA car with the 427. There is a part of me that likes the NA idea. That said a modest FI setup is pretty attractive. Modest being solid horsepower numbers we feel we can produce without pushing the builds potential. Thanks for sharing in the excitement! Last edited by Commit and Conquer; 01-24-2011 at 11:19 PM. I totally agree. And if the KB was like my Edelbrock or a maggie and you always stayed at elevation I would also agree. That KB as so much potential I would just hate to have to leave it set to mild when wild was just a pully away....Just sayin...More HP from boost than 9CC of displacement.Larry

If I was on a budget (which I am) I would stud the heads, get new ARP rod bolts, GT9 cam, TVS2300, twin pumps and call it a day. That'll be more than enough fun factor for the street. Here's the thing: Dont get all wrapped up in the numbers. Ive built more cars for people and all they wanted to see was a big number on the dyno reading. I'd rather invest that money into a solid suspension and plant that power to the ground. As men, sometimes we let our ego build our cars. Whatever your motivation is, just make sure you go about it rationally. That being said - Clint, I'll be contacting you soon for services....
