How much will the ZL1 weigh?

I haven't seen any specs quoting the weight of the 2012 ZL1 Camaro. Does anyone know what they will weigh in at?

I'm going to guess close to the SS.
Didn't they say in the live chat that the use of carbon fiber and lighter wheels will off set the weight of the upgrades?
Could be wrong but that's what I thought

No they didn't.

The wheels/tire saved ~22 lbs. I'm not sure what the carbon fiber is going to save vs. aluminum with the hood insert, but not a whole lot im sure.

The ZL1 has:
+ supercharger
+ heat exchanger
+ plumbing
+ fluids (supercharger coolant + oil)
+ larger brakes (not a whole lot, but there are 4 of em)
+ spoiler ()
+ 6 way power seat for passenger (this might be a bigger gain than some think)
+ 2 extra fog/running lights ()
+ cooling upgrades (assuming what they meant by this was other cooling upgrades other than heat exchanger)
+ beefier pumpkin (this could be a nice chunk of weight)
+ beefier axles
+ added leather
+ strut tower brace
+ thicker sway bar

This is also assuming no added "braces" and such were added to help withstand the added stresses (im assuming it doesn't need any since the mustang goes from base v8 to supercharged v8 without any extra needed either).

Some of the stuff listed is probably less than 1 lb., but the fact is, none of those things made it any lighter.

Good thing they used those hyper pistons to help lighten the load!!
I'm curious to see if this thing can squeek in at under 4000 lbs. Personally, my guess is going to be at 4050 lbs.

I have to Agree with THEEVILTW1N. There are a lot of upgrades front to back which add weight and I don't see them getting it even to 2SS/RS package weights. And if it doesn't push out over the estimted 550 hp, the Shelby will wear the crown.

I really hope it's lighter! because if it's not light/nimble then car&driver will just have another field day trash talking about it.

The ZL1 will in fact be using the "MG9" TR-6060 with a dual clutch, this will add alittle over 40lbs to the transmission alone over the 6060 M10/M12 single clutch. The ZL1 recieved a reinforced cast-iron differential housing, driveshaft and limited-slip differential. GM also replaced the stock Camaro's axles with stronger units. I originally guessed 4080lbs for the 6M but wasn't sure if GM would have reinforced the intire drivetrain like they did. Since GM claims that the wheels are lighter, suppose the stock wheel/tires weight 62.3lb front/68lbs rear a piece, then GM managed to save 5 1/2lbs per wheel/tire but most likely gained it immediately back in the one peice rear rotors and two piece fronts. If that is the case then I highly doubt GM used the stock 20x8 fr/20x9 r wheel becase it is dangerous to run a 285s on 8s and a 305 on 9s..

When asked about the weight they mentioned the 22lbs and the hood insert but it might just be a canned response to a sensitive question. Increasing the wheel width and tire size will often times increase weight. Just by increasing tire size from 245/45/20 to 275/40/20 will net you a 4lb increase on the same rim. So I figure they gained about 16lbs in rubber alone since the ZL1 uses 285/305s meaning GM has found a way to make an 8lb forged aluminum wheel.. That's incredible!!! If they would have told me that they only gained 22lbs by using 20x10 front/20x11 rear over the stock 20x8/20x9s and incresed the tire sizes from 245/275 to 285/305... I would have been impressed..... Even though a forged rim is much lighter than an equal sized casted rim when you increase the width of both rim and tire, you will see weight gain.

Saying a 5 star design is even capable of reducing weight is comical too, Edit: It appears the ZL1 wheel is actually the Stock 20 polished aluminum wheel with hollowed out/grooved centers in the spokes, weight savings is going to be minimal using the same design...

Seriously though....
Inorder to save 5.5lbs per wheel over stock you would have to use this formula:
Stock front: 20x8=30.3lbs
Stock: 245s=32lbs
Total :30.3+32=62.3lbs
285s=36lbs/4lb difference=66.3lbs per front wheel/tire
20x10=34lbs/4lb difference=70.3lbs per front wheel/tire
= 8lbs over stock per wheel/tire, 16lbs in front, 28lbs total, 12lbs rear (Goodyear F1 305/35/20s are 33lbs but the 20x11 is at 35lbs), minus your forged weight savings, about 6-10lbs total, maximum 2.5lbs per wheel if the design remains unchanged, Maximum weight savings comes from design not lighter metals, lightweight because it is stronger and uses less metal) and get 18-22lbs heavier than stock).

GM would have to decrease the wheel weight by 13.5lbs (or 16.8lbs total weight per wheel) to support their claims... Has anyone ever heard of a 20x10 Forged aluminum wheel weighing 16.8lbs??? And that is just the ONE front wheel...

Edit: Alot of editing after I found out that the ZL1 was using 285/35/20, 305/35/20 on a 20x10 and 20x11

Edit #2: In order to truely save weight in a wheel/tire you must decrease the size of the combo and use forged wheels. Example: I will be changing from the 19x9 Track Pack casted aluminum to the Enkei 18x9.5 Forged PF01s, I will save almost 40lbs in the wheels alone, but I will gain almost 3lbs per tire from 255s to 275 so my savings is only about 28lbs.. I had to decrease the size of the wheel to do that, If I went with the 19x9 Enkei PF01s my savings would have been about 16lbs and if I went with the 20x10s I would have gained over 26lbs in wheel/tires.

Edit #3: Estimated tire weights were replaced by actual tire weights from Goodyear and mathmatic figures were reaccomplished.
