Camaros Racing at Daytona

So Pfadt just got back from Daytona Beach this past weekend, where we were involved with various programs over the course of the Rolex 24 hours of Daytona weekend.

Pfadt was there for a couple reasons, the first being trackside support for Competition Associates in the Continental Tire Challenge series race, and the others was to support the Camaro racing teams of which we are tied in to. We had a great race in the CTC which had around 44 entries, qualifying downfield at about 33rd, and finishing up strong in 5th with some fantastic strategy calls. Our Drivers worked their way up to 3rd at one point but had a hard time maintaining it in lapped traffic (with a competing team's cars!). Either way, it was a great finish for everyone involved with the Competition Associates team.

But the main reason we are posting, is because we know people want to see Camaro race car pics! We had solid ties to the Stevenson and Autohaus Camaro efforts, and were there in the pits for support as you would expect. The most decorated road racing driver in American Le Mans and Chevrolet racing history, Johnny O'Connell, was piloting the Autohaus car with three others for the entire 24 hour grueling event. We work very closely with Johnny, as he is GM's "go-to" driver for development. After a TON of success with the Corvette Racing program, Johnny is now being tasked with developing the factory-built Camaro efforts in Grand AM, as well as the factory-built Cadillac Racing program in SCCA World Challenge.

Needless to say, when it comes to factory GM performance, there is no other driver in the world that has more authority on how these cars should handle and perform. We already have Corvette product offerings from Johnny, and now we may have some new things up our sleeve...

Anyway, below is some pics from the weekend, which featured amazing weather (unlike last year) and we ran into GTAHVIT on Satruday night! Good seeing you man!

The Camaros had some tough competition during the race, getting off to an early great start, but that isnt the story in endurance racing, it's whoever makes the fewest mistakes. The Stevenson #57 (Bremer / Liddell / Magnussen) suffered an electrical gremlin that took it behind the wall, and lost a lot of laps, and the Autohaus #88 (Lester / Marsh / O'Connell / Taylor) broke a sway bar and suffered clutch issues that set them back a considerable amount of laps.

Overall the Camaro's finished 12th (#57), 14th (#88) and 23rd (#07). Not the best results but they all finished the test. We are looking forward to next year.

A big shout out also goes to Jeff Bucknum and Mitchum Motorsports as they finished 7th and 10th in GS, and CKS Autosport who finished 14th and 20th, all in Continental Tire Camaro race cars!

Many thanks!! For the pix and Info. Watched Speed until it went NASCAR Then switched over to live timing and scoring on Grand-AM with web cam from Turner Motorsports and racers blog with Liz on TRG's web cam. All at the same time!! A real hoot!! Lot of Camaro fans on TRG. Perhaps Autohaus of Stevenson would consider.

Additionally the speedway offered a Camaro Corral. Looking for some feed back. Thanks!!

Thanks for the comments guys. The new pavement was great for sure, but I think drivers said it wasn't as big a deal as they made it out to me. I am sure it makes a much bigger difference if you running full oval.

I think GrandAm has actually done a pretty good job recently in putting on a good show. There are some areas that could be adressed, sure, just like any other series..but so far I think its still constantly progressing.
