Sometimes you feel like you can go on forever but overtraining is a reality so get plenty of rest, support your workouts with good clean food and if you start to feel run down taking a little break can be a good thing.

I absolutely LOVE yoga!! I really attribute a lot of my core strength and overall fitness to yoga!! Not to mention it is good for the soul...although the P90X yoga routine can really kick your a$$!! LoL!!!

ugh!! Found out several weeks ago my gyms powerlifting contest was going to be April 16th. Well, I was going to be at C5FII, so I wasn't going to start pushing through my routines, ramping them up to compete. Yesterday, they put the flyer out the contest was moved to April 30th. Now that is only 4 wks of training, definitely not enough to get into Powerlifting mode. But on the bright side, since I thought I was going to miss this meet, I was planning at trip to NC to see my parents... yes, on April 30th. What does it take to catch a break here.
Anyway, still staying strong with my lifts. Pushing 405 lbs on bench for reps and 225 lbs on incline bench for reps. And my partner made me do situps with a 45lb plate on my chest. I hate him this morning. |

Well,
CFD I took your advice and stoped checking the scale every day... Sticking to my diet and working in some cardio... Not nearly as much as I'd like.... but more than before.. 30 mins a couple times a week. I'm still seeing steady loss... about 1 pound a week this morning I'm down 11 total... I'd like another 4 by the fest...

I'm starting to get a little pissed.
I dropped 15 pounds in 6 weeks and in the 4 weeks since I haven't lost a single pound, YET I've lost another belt size.............. How the hell does THAT happen? I have not worked out a single time. Not once. No running, weights, ..... nothing, so no muscle growth to account for the oddity. I'm not sure what the heck is happening. |

Those who watch the scales often loose less fat than those who periodically use it as a tool. Before everyone says what the heck is he talking about I will explain. I'm sure most have heard of cortisol, it's a hormone that is very important for our body's to perform efficiently. Rises in cortisol are also very important but only under certain circumstances. Prolonged elevation in cortisol or ecessive rises in cortisol often result in a negative return. It prevents the thyroid gland, amongst other things, from functioning properly . Higher levels in cortisol have been proven to increase belly fat and decrease the body's abillity to burn fat. One of the most influencial increases in cortisol levels is stress. So in theory those who watch the scales from day to day expect to see a constant drop in the numbers, this isn't how it works, they fluctuate with ups and downs but the trend is to go donward if you eat right and exercise. Now when you don't see the numbers go down daily after hard work and eating right you stress out and produce more cortisol preventing your body from loosing the fat, that makes you stress out more and it's a vicious circle. So rather than stress out over this subject I'm getting ready to hit the eliptical to reduce body fat and relieve myself of some said stress. |

My thing now is not that I stopped losing, but that I stopped losing AND still dropped an inch in my waist. Is my scale broken? How do you get smaller but not lose wieght?

This is why a lot of times you will hear some of us say the scales lie. Body weight can fluctuate greatly due to physioligical changes so scale readings may not be an accurate way of seeing said changes. Thats why sometimes visual observations are more useful than scale readings. |
