I think you need to do some research first.

In Grosse Pointe Farms - one cannot work on a car in front of your home. You cannot park a motorhome in the driveway for more than 24 hours - nor can you park a boat on a trailer in your driveway for more than 24 hours.

There's a reason for this: It keeps the neighborhood nice - when I lived on Long Island - I kept my house pristine outside - yet the house across the street had cars on jackstands for weeks on end - garage doors were not painted - the lawn would go weeks without being mowed....and THAT brings housing values down.

So - I'd ask myself a couple of questions:

1. - am I violating any ordinances?

2. - do I maintain my home so that it does not detract from the other houses on the block?

3. - Do I make lots of noise when working on my car? Is my stereo blasting so that everyone on the block can hear it?

If your answers are "no" "yes" and "No" - and you can't think of anything else - then I'd go to court and fight it - and you might consider taking a journalist with you.

What shocks me is that SEVEN police officers showed up. I don't know about Arlington, TX - but in most municipalities these days, the police force is stretched so thin that some calls take hours to get a response......

Arlington Tx? I believe you. My ex husband got tickets for having a non running vehicle in his own back yard until he put up a 6 foot fence. Now the cops can't see it. They're not allowed to go over the fence to see if anything's back there.. Stupid, eh??

There just not used to seeing a 22 year old mexican driving a SS Camaro but I'm getting tired of them messing with me.

I hope you were respectful to the cops, otherwise that would explain a lot.

Shocking....

Not sure what noise has to do with it... no one said anything about noise. It is very common among city ord. that you cannot work on your vehicle IN FRONT of your house. It is a beautification deal... you can complain all you want, but it is your responsibility to know your city ordinances when you close on a house or rent in that municipality.

You had no idea what the ordinance was (still have no clue) yet you are going to fight it? Fight what? On what grounds? Let us know how the court appearance ends for you.

Some threads are just awful... not this one however, oh no. I would of completely bought this story until the 7 cops deal. I actually don't doubt 7 showed up, but something more happened. Something along the lines of you getting into a verbal with neighbors..etc etc.

Bummer, This is exactly why i pull my car into the garage every time i do any work. Last thing i need is 7 LEO's showing up like i'm some kind of domestic terrorist for working on my Camaro.

At least this thread has taught me to do my oil change in my garage now. My neighbors love me so far, but there's always one you can count on to call the Police.

If you had said that A cruiser had showed up... I woulda said "that sucks"... but seven?? That's a hazard right there!! lol

Are they trying to pin you for something else or harrass you because of an unrelated situation cause seven does not make a lick of sense!

Seven!!
