Chip Map
So I have a diagram of my car that I use to mark all the stone chips. I note where they are on the car and the approximate day they were acquired. Today after I Zainoed the car I found one on the drivers side ditch molding that is about .060 in diameter. All total, I have 4 chips on my 2010 Camaro. Does anybody else do this and do you guys think it is a good idea?

I don't really get the purpose of documenting your paint chips, myself. I would consider getting a clear bra if you are that dedicated to your car's paint.
I did, and yeah it was expensive but I have 0 paint chips after 2 years |

With a 100 mile daily round trip commute on one of the busiest roads in CA, if I documented like that I would have eaten a bullet within 30 days of ownership.

Keeping a log seems a little excessive but it's your car. The FIRST mod anyone should do is clear bra. I wish I had.

Excellent, but I actually have side, top, rear and front views of the car and I mark exactly where the chips are located on the pictures.

That might be just a tad excessive compulsive. I know it would drive me mad doing that. I get a bit crazy when I just notice a new one. If I were to examine, measure and photograph/document each and every one I'd lose my marbles.
Is there a specific reason you are being so thorough about this?

Get the Clearbra by 3M. It will free you like you've never been freed before. No chips, bugs just wipe off effortlessly. scratches are almost always absorbed by the bra without touching the paint. DO IT MAHN!
I did it. Now if I can just find a way to protect the leather seats from the inevitable wear marks, I may actually drive mine.

I agree that mappibng is a little excessive. Doing a quick search in here will tell you where you are going to accumulate chips. If you hate them and want to prevent getting anymore then I suggest you get a clear bra. I have installed film on about 60+ Camaros to date and have found that this car needs the bumper, lights, mirrors, rocker panels, and gills at a minimum. I would also suggest the partial hood and fenders. If you are that concerned about it you need to get this done ASAP or you will be vey dissapointed... the paint on the Camaros is pretty poor and you will have a lot of chips very quickly.

I don't know, seems a little excessive especially recording the size of the chips. It isn't a bad idea of know where the chips are for future polishing.
However with that said I keep a paint thickness chart for all my vehicles, this way I know how much clear has been removed and no of any trouble spots that I will have. |
