Rob is correct. The Camaro bumpsteer is limited. The 2005 on Mustang has a significant bumpsteer issue. When we did our development on the S197 we were able to control the bumpsteer with a rear control arm bush. As you reduce compliance in the assembly bumpsteer reduction follows. You can see the results on the alignment machine on our website. http://www.peddersusa.com/products/23/223
On the 5th Gen the most important bush upgrades are found in the sub-frame and radius bushes. Installing Pedders inserts reduce compliance in these foundational bushes. By reducing compliance we reduce the range of dynamic alignment changes that occur as you drive down the road. Camaroshark is headed down the right track with a Street I solution! |

OK Pete, here's another question for you.
if we have 33 rear sways and 27 front on stock wheels and tires... We agreed I wanted a little more over steer when we set it up. Both sways are using the middle holes.... I"m considering a 275 20 up front and a 315 in the rear??? So what would that mean for my sway set up... You think 20x10 with 305's all the way around would work???

I know that Dave at Forgeline has a couple of customers running 295/30/20s all around on 20x10s

Bump for Darryl -- I think the 275s will put a smile on your face and give you a taste of what the 305s would be like.

Thanks Pete for the bump. Too bad Nitto doesn't make those 295/30/20s Invos any longer...looks like that would've been a nice 4 corner combo for a 20".

PETE!!!
Need tire size advice.... I'm gonna have to run the stocks rims for a while longer... .. I think I'm going with the same wheel and tires setup on the ZL1 when I get the money saved. Front Wheels - 20 x 10 aluminum Rear Wheels - 20 x 11 aluminum Front Tires: P285/35ZR20 Rear Tires: P305/35ZR20 seems to be the best balance of looks and performance. you see any problems with those tires on the stock rims and do you have particular tire in those sizes that will make for a good autox DD combination?

Rear 20 x 9" Typical Rim Widths Front Tires: 285/35ZR20 9.5 to 11" Rear Tires: 305/35ZR20 10 to 12" Your current wheels would appear to be too narrow to fit the ZL1 tire sizes. Did you have a specific ttire brand and model in mind? |

So should this become a private conversation??? I understand you don't want to recommend anything unsafe... And No, I have no clue about tires.... NONE... another area I need to learn a bit more about.... I mean I know the basics about sizes and ratings.... But I know there's more to it than that... I remember you taking some flack for using a tire that wasn't rated to the weight of your camaro.... I think??? It was a while ago... crap... It may actually be this thread...

Back to your tires. A lot of people do put over size tires on rims that are too narrow. That is a really bad idea. The more balloon you have in your sidewall the worse your car will handle because of the increase in sidewall flex. In most applications the OE tire size will deliver better performance than an ill fit larger tire. In some cases moving down a size and stretching the smaller tire across the rim will deliver better handling than the OE size. Think of it this way. Many on Camaro5 are replacing dampers, coils, springs sway bars and bushes to remove compliance from the system to increase performance. If you have replaced everything and now have a perfect suspension do you really want undermine what you have done with a set of tires that have too much sidewall flex because they are mounted on rims that are too small? |

Save faster? Get a better deal on wheels? Put it on a CC and make sure what you were saving pays it off in 7 months. What we are talking about is serious business. How many 5th Gens have already kissed a curb hard after losing it in a turn? I say too many. I would say if, but you are heavily modded so I'll say when, you get close to the edge, you will take corrective action. The extra flex in the sidewalls of the over-sized tires could easily be the difference between an exciting moment and an expensive or worse incident. I take suspension, tires and brakes as though it is a life and death matter because they are. Take four 3x5" index cards and throw them on the floor. That is all there is between you and loss of control. That is about all you have for acceleration, braking and directional control for your two ton Camaro on OE tires. In some situations it is not enough. I would apologise for taking such a hard-line and serious tone as it sounds like a stern lecture, but I won't as it is subject deserves no less. Speaking to you as a friend with a great wife and kids, protect them and protect yourself for them. If you want to talk about this further call me any time. |

No need to apologize! why do you think I asked you?
![]() My Friend, I knew you'd give it to me straight... Gonna have to come up with a new plan... Maybe some stock P Zeros with mild wear in the 4 sale section... OK.. so... For my eventual setup... do you have a tire you like?
