Rear Coil Over Adjustment Input

Which do you guys prefer, adjusting the rear coil overs from under the rear or would you rather drill a hole in the trunk and adjust it from there? We have our rear coil overs set to be adjusted at the bottom of the coil over near the trailing arm, but opening the hood seems so much more comfortable for adjusting the front. What do you think?

We have done it both ways I don't like drilling or cutting any more of the car than I have to,but it is nice to make the adjustment from inside the trunk some times.

The holes are no big deal. VERY easy to adjust, just pop the hood and the trunk.

I have the holes in my trunk and they are hidden under the carpet. Makes it super easy to adjust. I can't imagine having to crawl under my car to make an adjustment.

Maybe if you flipped the knob so it's at the bottom like Pfadt has it wouldn't be that bad if you just had to kneel down and reach behind the wheel. Still I would prefer to go through the trunk. That's just my opinion though.

I can kind of get why some don't want to cut a whole but I just don't see it as that big a deal. Extreme worst case would be replacing the trunk. You know how many First Gen Camaros have had to have trunk replaced.....pretty much all of them. Maybe if it was a special edition car or something but an average Camaro is no big deal to me. Especially not for the trade off in convience.

Thanks for the great feedback. It's definitely a catch-22 either way, we're likely going to stick with the prototype design of adjusting from below. By the time you make a hole for the knob, your fingers, and some guesswork of the location it's a decent sized hole. If you have the knob protrude up into the trunk, then you can't install a plug to seal it back up again. So far the poll is on par with our thoughts

Have you looked at how Whiteside installs the BC Coilover? He shows a fairly easy way to get the alignment the access whole. Use a 2" hole saw and then a desk grommet to help protect your fingers and make it look like a clean install. 2" is enough room to get your fingers around the knob and twist them. At least that's the case on the BC knobs.

BTW: I think I accidentally chose below the car instead of in the trunk. I have no way to verify that though nor can I go back and change it. Results could be slightly skewed.

At least for me personally, I won't consider any of the options that require a hole in the trunk. I plan on keeping the car forever so no holes and no hacking of wiring harnesses. I'd much rather crawl under the car on track days.

Why couldn't you devise a flexible line that could be run anywhere within reason that would require a 3/8 to 1/2 hole to mount and adjust that way?

I don't have holes... I wish I did. I hate getting dirty between runs making adjustments. PLUS. If it's raining it's even worse. Also, when you do events you pull everything out of the trunk anyways so getting to the holes would be even easier... just my .02

Can't you just cut a slot on the top of the adjustment knob for the back coilovers, then you could use a screwdriver to adjust it. You would still need a hole but it could be much smaller than one needed to adjust it with your fingers. You could also use a smaller plug when not adjusting to seal the hole.

Wow this poll just got a little closer.

We thought about using a simple/common tool for in trunk adjustment, whether it be screw driver, socket, allen head so the hole isn't so intrusive on the vehicle. Great thread going!

To each his own is the motto here. Contrary to Caverman, I can't imagine drilling holes in my perfectly good body. I'd rather get down and dirty to adjust my coilovers. If I'm coming home from a wet event, I'll just drive home without softening up the ride and do it when everything has dried out.

If there was a way you could make it optional to either going through the trunk or from underneath that might be your best bet.
