so i have a 2010 camaro ss with normal m6 shifter, a seller on here is giving me a deal on the fatory hurst shifter from a 2011. it comes with the knob shaft and ring with screws. BUT i heard from the dealer that i need a bracket replacement too? do i, the owner said that he's replaced a handful and never changed the bracket.

so i need help!!! i dont know what to do?

While the factory Hurst shift lever will physically fit into a non-Hurst bracket and reduce throw... the shifting will not be as smooth without the Hurst bracket and may even feel somewhat notchy while shifting. The shift lever pushes a linkage rod in and out of the transmission. By not using the Hurst shifter bracket the Hurst shifter lever will not push this rod straight but at an angle into and out of the transmission. Many people will try and cut corners by not installing the bracket (it is a major PITA to replace the whole bracket), but they are also cutting corners in shift quality. The aftermarket Hurst shifter gets around this issue by repositioning the pivot point while maintaining a straight (direct) angle on the transmission change rod.

Kenjis right, the entire shifter assembly was reworked on the factory Hurst shifter. I've seen one and its very different from the stock, has a revised bottom bracket and a top one on the shifter assembly. It may or may not fit, and even if it does the support it would need from the new brackets wouldn't be there.
