Custom painted rear light bezels--Gunmetal matte gray - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

Been wanting to do this for a while now, but never found the right shade of gunmetal. I am trying to match my wheels and all the grays were too light and could not get the paint code from the wheel company...they said they didn't have one...

Anyway, been playing with painting scrap pieces I found in my garage and hit on the color. I removed the bezels, then sanded them down with 320 grit paper. Then sprayed 3 coats of self etching primer on them. Then I sprayed a "light" colored black on them, 2 coats. Then sprayed a dark gray one coat. While that gray was still wet, I sprayed a very light coat of the light black. I let it dry and then put 4 coats of clear coat on it. So a total of 9 coats of paint! Yes, my finger hurts from spraying paint! Not perfect, but not bad.

I love how they turned out. Here is a before picture, with chrome and some from the stages as I painted....and lastly one next to the wheel. I will update either later tonight or in the morning with them installed on the car. Instead of my car being blacked out, I am going to gray it out...I am going to paint the Camaro letters and bowtie outer pieces the same color. Tell me what you think good bad or indifferent. The beauty of this is if I don't like it I can always repaint or get new ones in carbon fiber.

Nice job and I love the direction your going with your car as previously stated.
But on this one I like the chrome better. It has a better contrast than the Grey imo.

Thanks for the input. I can't make up my mind yet. I might end up going carbon fiber or paint them white to match the car...I think this will look better once I get the chrome part of the bowtie painted in gray...or doing CAMARO lettering on the trunk and taking the bowtie off...thoughts? I am planning on doing the letters on the side in gray too...
