Who cares about fuel economy! Right?

I'm kinda surprised by how many people seem to glide right over the fuel consumption issue for the V8 model (or maybe not?). I get the feeling though, that even the many that claim they will never buy their Camaro with anything less than 8 cylinders will actually end up doing just the opposite come purchase time.

I agree. But I def. will not purchase a Camaro w/ a V6. I just can't fall into that group. I'll most likely look elsewhere.

But yeah, when the car comes out and all the nay sayers look apon its beauty, there will be minds changed.

I'm 19 but I know a bit of American Muscle Car heritage and I WILL get have V-8.

I drive a 2006 H2 and at 11.7 MPG (at least thats what my computer tells me) I'm defently feeling the crunch on gas prices...But I WILL buy the top dog and I don't care about the MPG (Obviously)

I can say that I wouldn't mind being one of the few here to purchase a v6 if the v6 in the car is a good engine with plenty of power. For one it would be cheaper for me on my tight budget in many different aspects... and if I wanted more power I can always go into the aftermarket areas and spice things up a bit. Yeah I would love to have a v8 beast and all the mystique that comes with it but from the possible v6 options rumored around along with this car not "needing" the crazy power I could very easily buy the v6. Really the only reason I would upgrade to the v8 is if the price isn't a huge jump or if the options I want are only offered on the v8 models.

I'll gladly take the 3.6 DI Camaro with NO hesitation whatsoever. From the sound of the responses people have to this engine in the Camaro I doubt they know much of anything at all about it, and even fewer have driven the CTS 3.6 DI. You have to know that if GM is currently only using this engine in a Caddy, a true premium product, it's gotta be DAMN good, and it is. Not to mention it's probably one of the most technologically advanced V6's on the market, hands down. Like I said though, if GM can bring us a V8 5th-gen that nets 21 on the combined cycle or better I'll pull, but until then I'll keep my dollars at the gas pump. I can't imagine having to fill up 2-3 times a week, that scares me.

We don't know that it will be "detuned", we just know it's a sure thing it's getting the same engine.

I really want the base V-8 and plan on getting my Camaro with one. But if the worst case scenario happens and the the price "premium" makes the base V-8 more than about $30k, I could settle for a powerful V-6 as long as I got a suspension upgrade to make the car more fun around the corners. I would look at the possibility of a G8 GT if that were to happen though. I would really like to upgrade to a big bad V-8.

Same boat as noodles... except gas prices to me are meh.. it could always be 6-7$..

I drive a dodge ram 1500 V8 manual and get an average of 18MPG... even a 4000lb ls3 will get better MPG so for me ill be saving money..

PS I dont complain about gas prices becuase i drive a V8 and i CHOSE to buy one. Gas is a luxury item for me and as such its price to me is relative.

I work 7 miles from my home, so fuel economy isn't an issue. I drive a fairly modified Mustang and get about 16MPG in the city (I rarely drive on the highway). I will only buy a V8 Camaro. It just makes sense for what I want in a car: performance. If fuel economy becomes an issue, then I will buy a second vehicle that gets excellent fuel economy to use as a daily driver.

If the 3.6 is a 300+ horse I would consider it. If it is only 260hp like Lutz said, I wont. It will either be a v8 or if gas is really bad a Volt.

to be honest if u care about gas dont buy a muscle car, go buy a japenese 4 cylinder.
seriously when buying a v8 muscle car, gas prices should not even be a though in your head, like comon ur gona be buying a 400+hp car and ur worried about gas lol.

Gas is definitely a factor for me, I just can't afford to spend 100 dollars a week on gas haha,
I really hope that Chevrolet will offer a V6 with 300+ hp, just to see the look on the current GT owners' faces : D
