My new problem

Well crap. This just started happening at 10,000 miles. I thought I dodged the top bullet, but NOPE. Appointment Monday to document my stupid rub marks.
*SIGH*

Good luck getting it documented. My 4/4 build 2012 also does this. I was in for an oil change yesterday and wanted to get it documented. Rep told me we don't do that unless you want it fixed. Um, wouldn't it be wise to look at so 8 months down the road when it has a hole you already were aware of it?

My dealer said no problem on the documentation. I also discovered the release mechanism on the back of the driver's seat doesn't work anymore. No clue when that happened since hardly anyone ever rides back there.

With the top up there's a rub mark. Actually I have lots of rub marks starting. The worst is a long one where the first bow is. I'll try to post a picture tomorrow.

Haven't been a lot of 2012's with the issue that i recall....You really need to go through the steps and let them try to fix it. The next time(s) when they say "we already looked at it and can't find anything wrong" then tell them to document because it is unresolved. Then you're covered if/when you escalate and the documentation is there.

This may be a dumb question, but is that just cloth bunched up, or is something underneath poking it out like that? TNX.

Look here...http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=248940, post #8. In it you will see before(old top) and after(new top) shots of my car. The new top retrofit replacement kit controls the material folding much better than the old top. My car had the exact same problem and if I drove around without the tonneau cover, rub marks appeared.

BOTTOM LINE ---- Bring my thread to the dealer and show them. Then start requesting/demanding a new top. Keep your cool, be professional but stand your ground. If you don't get "ok sir, no problem" for an answer then start the phones ringing at the GM Executive Office and request a case number 313-667-7153. Or private message Brandon on this forum. He should be able to get a case number started for you. Trust me, if your dealer does not seem helpful then you need to get this process started. Also, if your dealer has not worked on these tops it is in your best interest to request a GM field engineer to assist your dealer. You may be lucky and a service tech may be able to teach himself on your car. But the retrofit kit top contains many new tension cords, rivets, tension cord attachment points, the requirement to drill holes in the frame at the correct locations and many other detailed things that have to occur. You don't want just anybody doing this job.

That's awesome information! So far I have no complaints about the dealer, but top issues might not fly with them. We bought the car an hour away from home and use a dealer 5 minutes away. Keeping my fingers crossed I don't need to call GM.

I have the exact same issue with my original top... All is well except the damn thing flapping in the wind and rubbing against the back deck. Your explanation is the best I've seen yet on the topic. Question is... Is this a time tested retrofit? I am really weary to let my dealer touch my top just yet until some time and training has passed. I'm open to feedback.

My top goes down just like in the OPs pic. I simply tuck it under with my hand and no problem, no rub marks, nothing.
IMO this would not be worth having the top messed with....... just my .02

My build 12/11/2011 does the same thing. Same thing from my dealer. Fine.. I'll wait till it rubs enought to become a hole and GM can spend a lot more money fixing it.

So over all this... can't even sell the car and get decent money.. no one wants to buy a vert with top problems.

Here is some dialogue I had with FBODFATHER.. after I sent the pics.. crickets.. now I'm just waiting till it gets worse and will AGAIN start the process... this was my new 2012..

Hi Scot
Thanks for your quick reply.

I just uploaded them to photobucket so I can post them here. I guess I can't add attachments to pm's.

I have complete faith in GM still. 2 corvettes in my past.. one a c5 zO6.. and bringing my two son's up to be gm/chevy guys too. I know you will honor the warranty and these issues will get right. The rice burners provide their share of competition with these younger kids though.. oh well

These pics were taken with 94 miles on the odometer. The car had 4 miles on the odometer when I picked her up, and none of the 90 miles were driven with the top down.

Thanks!

I am not sure where you've posted the pics - -but if you can tell me where, I'll send them on to our Quality Manager as he's the expert on Convertible tops.

The sad part in all of this is that we had to replace the top supplier just prior to launch of the Convertible as the original supplier went Chapter 7 after we went Chapter 11........and, as I say, we want peoples' new Camaro to be the best car they've ever owned.

We will still warrant the top on your car should any problems arise. I am not privy to our weekly quality meetings right now as I have several other projects that are taking quite a bit of time...but I do know that Al (Oppenheiser) and Jack (Pantaleo) are working very closely with the supplier and our field engineers to work thru any issues that remain.

cam62, yours does look excessive, protruding more. ours is just on the drivers side and sticks out just a bit.
