Test drove a 2013 2SS/RS today....(long)

I went to the dealer I bought my LS from about 3 years ago. I was getting a refund for my remaining GAP ins since I paid of my original loan early. I started talking to the same guy that sold me my Camaro. His name is Tom. I told him I still have regrets sometimes about not getting an SS. I said I'd like to test drive one but I thought that would make me feel like my car was less awesome. Then I said , "Heck with it. I have to see how much better the SS is." So he says "Okay you could take an SS for a drive if you want." I asked if they had a manual 2SS I could try. He says "Yes."

So we go out and sitting next to a IOM ZL1 with black wheels (first time I've seen one in person and it is FANTASTIC, and way out of my price range) and a Hot Wheels edition SS there's this sweet 2013 Summit White 2SS/RS with IOM stripes and interior. Not my first choice for colors but whatevs. It had the 2010-12 RS wheels on it which I like better than the 2013 wheels. But we get in and I notice right away the interior just seem bigger than my car. The LS doesn't have power seats and since I'm 6' 3" I feel a little cramped in my car. But not in this SS. I mean it was a big difference. I had more head room and more leg room. I liked the newer steering wheel, it felt good in my hands. It had a Hurst shift knob, also felt good, not sure if it was a short throw or not. I'm guessing it was. I look down at the My link radio gizmo and thought ' yea that's neat.'

Then it happened. I started it up. It was equipped with the new quad tipped dual mode exhaust. 400 plus ponies roar to life. Oh My Gosh. That sounded awesome! I'm thinking 'this was a bad idea.' I ask Tom about the HUD cuz I wanna know these things. I say "How do you turn it on?" Then I noticed it was already on. How cool! I didn't know that it projects the display so it gives the illusion that the numbers are floating in the air about 3 feet in front of the car! I thought they were just like flat on the windshield right in front of you. I'm impressed. Me want.

Okay let's take this baby to the freeway and see what all the hubub's about. I have a little trouble getting thru the gears sometimes. I'm guessing it's because of skip shift technoligy, that would have to go. I get on the freeway ramp and floor it in 3rd gear....Awesome sound and power! Feels great! What a fantastic car.
So we get back to the dealership and do some talking. That was a 38,000 dollar car. I can't afford that really. But maybe a 30,000 dollar car. I told him I could probably live without the HUD and the Leather so a 1SS /RS is an option. Preferably in Ashen Grey and maybe slightly used to get into my price range.
So I shake the man's hand and leave. Get back into my car and the start her up. The sound isn't as impressive. But I get on it a little bit and chirp the tires in first and second gears. It feels just as good to me as that awesome SS that I just got out of. I go to Panera's for dinner and stare at it through the window. I love my car. I have made it just the way I like it little by little these past couple years. I don't think I can trade it in. I've always liked my car but I feel so much better about it now. Sure it is not as beastly or well appointed as some Camaros but I know now that what was driving me crazy was not knowing the difference between my car and the SS. Now that I know the difference I can honestly say that I can live with that. I'm glad I took that test drive today and I think I'm over the regrets I was having. I have a renewed appreciation for my car. But who knows? If my buddy Tom calls with a killer deal on an SS... well.

I had a 2012 v6 ls manual brand new and put 2000 miles on it and saw the 2013 2lt with all options and traded. I own all my vehicles so trading was no big deal in money difference to me. I drove it for 500 miles and just could not get the SS out of my mind so I went back to my dealer and he had just got in a 2013 black 2ss loaded with the SLP 585 supercharged package with hurst shifter and NPP exhaust. I was thinking the ZL1 was my next camaro and I drove the SLP version and I was sold.
Dealer wanted my 2013 2LT v6 but I like the looks so much I kept it and traded in my 2008 corvette z51.
I have both now v6 and v8 supercharged and love them both.
My daughter turns 16 she wants the v6.
You were able to resist so keep the v6 they are both great.

I had both but sorry you're in denial. There is big difference between the 2, they are not even close. I loved my V6, its a great car but they are totally different. Go drive a broken in, fuse pulled SS, then tell me there is not a big difference.

Didn't say there wasn't a big difference. There is.
Just wasn't big enough for me to trade my car away for. Just saying for what it would cost me I would rather stay where I am.

Keep v6 for everyday use and buy a ss later on as your weekend toy.

I have to agree with this completely. I have driven every type of Camaro minus a auto V6. The auto V8 felt quicker than my manual 6 and I definitely felt a bigger diffrence in the manual 8 but it was not near enough to want me to trade my 6. My Camaro is my first car and is my dream car. It has to much sentimental value to ever trade in for another one.

I gotta ask, did you dress like Jeff Gordon and does Tom need a new pair of shorts?

I was one of the few that test drove both the v8 and v6 back when the first ones showed up in town in 2009. I was totally sold on the SS, however I had two years to stew on it and ponder my future purchase. As time went by I weighed the pro and cons, the advantages and disadvantages, even the wants and needs, I look back and feel blessed that I had all that time to mull it over.
When the time came I knew exactly what I wanted/needed, a lot of info I used was found in this forum.
I wanted the horse power but didn't need it, don't like leather, like the "old school" looks of the regular halogen lights, needed it to get close to 30 MPGs because of all the driving I do( yes my car gets the MPGs advertised on the window sticker), nor did I want to have to put that pricy premium gas in it all the time. Didn't need the HUD ( although it is pretty cool) and I didn't want to pay for the pricey Pzeros, that would only get me around 20000 miles, when I can find a replacement set of 18" tires all day long on the internet for sale at $200(just bought a set from a fellow member) AND they get me 40000 miles on a set to boot!
So....when I went out to buy mine, I got the 1LT non RS and with only a heritage grill added. I have been extremely happy with my v6 even though I have tried out an SS with manual trans, ya it was a blast but I still would not give my current car up for one, not worth it to me. At least I test drove an SS and now know how awesome a car they are.

Before getting my car I was going to get the SS but only had automatics on the lot and couldn't find any manuals in the area but they found a manual v6 about 1oo miles away they shipped it in and I love it. Must admit though was not totally impressed with performance until I did a few bolt on mods. Coming from driving and owning some 60s muscle car V8s I am now impressed with the performance of the 6.
