DIY Ghosted Side Markers
I purchased and installed the Oracle LED side markers last summer. I was too cheap at the time to buy them ghosted so I just added smoked covers and convinced myself that they were good enough. After seeing photos of others who have them ghosted I have decided to try and paint them myself. Of course I have to perfect my technique before I do them for real so I decided to practice using one of the OEM ones I had removed.
I am posting this for two reasons. First to get opinions on how the test piece turned out and second I am looking for any advice from others who may have already done it. The process I used was as follows. 1. Wet sanded the marker with 2000 grit sandpaper. 2. Applied 2 coats of plastic adhesion promoter. 3. Applied 1/8" wide detail tape that I will use to cover the led strips 4. Applied 3 coats of paint (CGM) 5. Removed the tape 6. Applied 2 more coats of paint 7. Wet sanded to blend in the area around where the tape was. 8. Applied 1 more coat of paint 9. Applied 3 coats of clear coat Here are a few photos of the outcome. The last one I used a small flashlight to make sure the light would only show through the area I had masked off. |

Do you mind saying what primer and clear coat you used on them?
