Underbody glow

Has anyone tried to hook underbody glow to the gray wire that's being used for the footwell lighting. I was not sure if it had enough power to support these. I'm not wanting to drive around with the lights on but I thought it would look sweet if they came on when I unlocked my car at night. I know not many people like these so I'm sure I will catch some heat from this post.
Thanks for any input. Jason

I have full underglow but not hooked up there. Why limit yourself though? Set it up to a remote and use it whenever?

I wonder if there is a way to have it both ways. Have it come on with the dome light and have full control with the remote. I ordered the kit yesterday. I'm just not sure how I want to hook it up. The kit came with 4 under glow tubes and 2 for the inside. I plan on using those in the footwell.

I have the single color (white) 4 bar footwell lighting kit from LED underbody. It is installed to the grey wire and I choose it to be on the "full" on mode. The controller remembers the last mode. I tucked the controller behind the left side console skin. If you want to have mode changes or access to the controller for other reasons you could mount it on the outside I guess. If the dome switch on my 2013 is off - the footwells are off. Set to be on when door opens - that's the way the footwell lights act also. If I turn the dome to on - footwells on also.

I leave it on door dome control 99% time.

Same here. But I use an on-off-on switch to manually control them if I want....and mine are orange.

It would prolly run it just fine but to be on the safe side run it into a relay. Gray wire on the relay's coil and then have your UnderGlow on the contacts. Like mentioned before, place a on-off-on switch where your UnderGlow going to your common, a wire coming from the relay contacts on one side and then have a +12v going to the other side of the switch. That way you'd be able to switch and have it come on whenever the relay kicks in(footwell lights come on) or have it constant. Best to put the +12v as being accessory power so that you do not forget to turn them off and run your battery dead.

I like the idea of the on off on switch. I will be doing that for sure. I have never hooked anything up using a relay. Could you explain a little bit more about that for this install? I'm excised about this install but I don't want to mess anything up. Thanks for the input. Jason

I did some research. I think I figured out the relay. I need 4pin relay. My question is do I need to run a 12v constant to the relay or will it only be the gray wire, ground and the lights. Thanks for the input.

Yes sir, The +12v would be what's supplying the power for the lights as the gray wire will only be turning on and off the relay, per say. But keep in mine a +12v constant will need to be ran to the other side of the switch if you want the option of turning on the lights any time you want for example at a car show or something where you do not what to keep your door open or dome light on.

Thanks man. After your help I feel much better about this install. Under glow and footwell lights will be here Friday. Hope to get it done this weekend. I will post pics when it's complete. Thanks again. Jason
