Low oil pressure..... pump or filter?
Well I replaced the oil sensor AND put a mechanical gauge on the car but still shows low pressure.
Before I tear it down, what are the chances the oil filter got plugged or broke? Melling high volume pump. Oil filter has been on for about 5k miles. |

What type of Filter? I guess for piece of mind purposes you can try to replace the filter (AC delco I would go with). It's the less time consuming method as opposed to checking your O/P. More than likely it is going to be your Melling that's the cause for the low oil pressure, whether its the o-ring or the pump itself.

Would only cost a few bucks to test it out.

Agreed. Just wondering opinions.
I put a mechanical gauge on it and the cabin gauge and mechanical gauge both agree. I'll put a new filter just for piece of mind. I'm not sure the type of filter. I'll go check. |

What is your Oil pressure?
What weight of Oil? How hot outside has it been in your area? You may or may not have a problem.

Oh,Ok....with that low of a reading it would seem like a mechanical problem...pump,O-ring on pick-up tube, etc.
Some guys are running 0-20W Oil these days like on the Ford Coyote motor. It can show lower pressure than we are used to seeing, but has no ill effect. Flow is always better than pressure. Sorry to hear that man,but shouldn't be too hard to fix.

Does the water pump have to come off?
Haven't really looked at it close. |

Scary part is when it's cooled down and freshly started the pressure hold steady and drops slowly as it heats up.
![]() But that starting pressure is only 30 psi. |

30 is still low if I remember correctly.
Wouldn't hurt to just try the filter but after that it's probably time to break out the latex gloves and dig in. |

Sorry to hear about the low oil pressure sensor. I understand the displeasure that this must have created. Please let me know if you may need additional assistance, otherwise any updates you can provide on this would be greatly appreciated. William R. Chevrolet Customer Care

Keep us posted, mine does the same thing as yours but no codes. Thought about changing to a melling oil pump.
