Is he more fortunate than most? Yes (in this case, who knows he might be selling his kidney's to get this ride) Is he going to treat it respectfully and follow the rules of the road? I don't know, but from it seems like so far this kid seems to have his head screwed on from what brief writing of his I've seen. I don't know kid, I'm only 21 and if I were in your situation I would talk to the dealer to see if they could get you some sort of extension - who knows, they might want to keep it for a bit as a demo car for the showroom floor. Do what feels best to you.

Let it go.
Material is not worth the stress it can bring along with it sometimes. Plan your life. Think of what you want to have when you're 50 years-old or so then spend the next 34 years getting it. |

If he has a passion for cars i think he deserves it. If he likes cars hes not gonna drive stupid because how much it will be worth later.

Thanks so far for all the feedback guys positive and negative... ive been reading it during the commercials of top gear!
Ill defiantly have to have a good long talk with my dad about this tomorrow on what he thinks of how i feel just to answer a few questions for you guys... My driving experience: Now granted i'm only 16 so i dont have all the experience you guys have. But one of my dads main tests was when we went skiing and we took his 2007 Vette. He had me drive the majority of the way and on the way back i was the lucky person to drive through a blizzard. And my dad turned off the traction control and such to see how i really do, and that turned out extremely well absolutely no problems at all. How i would treat this car: Now ive had a 2000 camaro V6 that i bought when i first got my licence for $1600... kinda beat up physically but its all there mechanically. The car was kinda neglected when i got it too i wash the car every weekend and do a through cleaning of the interior every other weekend. i care very much for my car even though its not in the best shape in the world but itll always be that FIRST car! i basically treat my car like its the love of my life. I have alot of control for a 16 year old ive only done 1 real burnout just because i was curious and it was pretty fun too. But i wouldnt say its worth the cost of the tires. I also plan on doing the same thing that my dad did with his 1973 Mach 1 Mustang. Drive it for a few years and then buy a used car when i go off to college and keep her in the garage. Also i pretty much know how id like my life to do, im down to 2 choices... go to college major in business and then go work for either some bank in New York and fulfill one of my dreams of opening my own hedge fund. OR move to Detroit and work for my favorite company in the world GM! Once again thanks for all the advice so far and all the responses... even the negative ones. Ill just have to have a very long conversation with my dad about this tomorrow and see if we can both get on the same page here.

You have to give props to the kid for thinking about his dad more than himself. You don't see that much in today's world. He didn't ask if he was old enough to get the car. We all know thats might not be a great idea, but that's betweem him and his old man. It sounds like dad wants it as much a you do, so If where me I would just wait if the dealer is willing too. If your dad is in busniess, I'm sure his is used to stress.
As for some advice, my old man bought me a 1979 trans am with a big block and a 4 speed when I was sixteen , and I wraped it around a pole the day of the prom. Just be careful If you do get it. The 2010 camaro is twice the power of the 1979 trans am. |

Pretty much any thread on this site that starts with someone else paying for your car is going to get ugly.

I think one of the biggest problems for kids and fast cars is peer pressure and wanting to show off. Come to think of it how many of us adults on here have had our cars up to 100 mph? We are probably safer due to experience but it's still irresponsible and dangerous.
