Master Cylinder Reservoir Repeir
I took my car to my local dealer (Delillo Chevrolet) yesterday to address a long term problem. I've had my car for just over a year and the master cylinder reservoir has been weeping the whole time. I was nervous that I'd take it there and pick it up with some collateral damage to a wheel or paint.
When I finally scheduled the appointment, I made sure that they understood that this isn't just another car. For me this is my dream car and I needed their best technician to complete the repair. They installed a new reservoir and cap in about two hours. I picked up the car with no signs of a repair (except a clean reservoir). I am relieved that it is done! Hats off to the dealer for a quality repair and being conscientious about the work on my baby. I'll watch to see if the leak is fixed (so far so good). The parts were from a Technical Service Bulletin, so I expect it is fixed for good. Breathing easier now.

I had mine done, but the replacement still wept. Not as much as the original, but still some. I reused the plastic jug spacer for the cap that I made based on advice from a post I read on this forum. It weeps no more. Good luck with yours OC ZL1

I got that done as well. Mine used to leak to the point I had puddles under the car. I put some cardboard under the rubber as a stop gap and got that bulletin done when I had the car in the shop. The reservoir is different then the old one and the cap definitely fits tighter. I'm at about 8k miles (+/-) and it doesn't leak any more.

See post #15.
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=175467 I tried the plastic milk jug shim but it didn't stop the weeping. Ended up having the reservoir replaced by the dealer.

Is the new type reservoir noticeably different? If so anyone have a photo of the new type?
Do the new cars coming off the line have the new type? |

I have a 6M and I did the separate Clutch Fluid Reservoir, so when the Dealer replaced the weeping Brake Fluid Reservoir, I asked them not to cut the spout (spigot?) for the Clutch line (SCORE!). Thanks for posting the link for the Shim Hawk02, I was too lazy to search it out myself.
Physically, I can see no difference in the new reservoir; I think a minor change in dimensions or the mold from the OE supplier accounts for the tighter fit of the cap and diminishes the potential for weeping. Nevertheless, the replacement on mine still wept some and I put the shims I had made for the original to good (re)use. Like I said, it weeps no more. |
