I hear you. The thing with the EVO is that it would absolutely get off the line quick. But bone stock they run out of steam quick while rolling. And on a roll things like an SS or comparable were not things to screw with at all.

Much respect to you though for not drag racing with kids in the car.

So many people disregard that detail and have at it anyway. Any time I saw kids in a car wanting to run me I flat out refused to indulge. It's just not worth it.

Absolutely. This is why they pack good stereos in these cars, so one can just tune out the clowns. The roads are so busy anymore that it's just not worth it. Having a wife and kids myself and being the bread winner, I'm not so inclined to take the risk anymore on the street. The potential consequences can devastate a family in the blink of an eye.

I think most people don't even know the difference between the any of the models. You should be happy if they even acknowledge it as a Camaro.

You're right...too many idiots out there that don't care about other's safety, even their own kids! Good for you for not engaging when one of those idiots pulls up to you!!

Also if people ask you about your Camaro, then you explain to them what differs or makes it better than lower cost models. They still sometimes have no clue

I know there are stock turbo lancers that look very similar to the Evo, some were fwd I think. I can barely tell the difference unless Im real close and those are very popular tuner cars. So with all the Camaro models from V6 to ZL1 an average person is not going to be able to tell the difference if they dont have one or one of their buddies dont.

The external differences are even more subtle in the newer EVO X. I see your point there. The differences under the hood are night and day of course.

I know a 2010 Camaro SS owner who swore up and down that I owned a ZL-1 until I informed him nicely that it was a 1LE.

Maybe he thought it might be a Z/28 and wanted to get a closer look.

Most ricer and ricer 2.0's would not no a difference between any of the Camaro trims. They will buzz around you constantly...until you don't take the bait.

I have had them tell me how nice my mustang or vette is when I am in the Camaro, for example..
The Subaru STI we get in the USA is a 2.5.

One of the easiest ways to know which is an EVO X and which is a fake is usually the license plate placement (if they require front plates). The X plate is offset to the driver's side to accomodate the intercooler.
For a base lancer (and I believe a ralliart though now 100% sure) the license plate is centered on the bumper.

Driving any of my prior 4 cars on the street, one I would be fearful of (ZL1) the other I wouldn't. No confusion on my end.

The next way to figure it out is when they take off, the front wheels aren't slipping/hopping. LOL

I read this thread yesterday, and sure enough this happened to me. An older guy, maybe 50's? (I'm 25) in a 5 door wrx, hauled ass to catch up to me on the freeway, I let him pass me, and as he's passing I notice him checking out my rear end, trying to figure out what model I had. I think he thought I had v6 because all my SS emblems are removed. He actually tried to race me... Better thoughts on my part prevailed, not going to risk that.
