A question about my LT headers

Hi guys here are two pictures of the connecting areas of my LT headers to the cat and the cat to the extenders (which connect the cat-back exhaust). I notice there is some white or grey stains there between the clamps and the pipes and I can sometimes hear a slight hissing sound when I accelerate at high gears (5,6) (this does not happen at low gears). Are the stains a sign of leaking? I am asking because normally a leak would produce black stain. Are the stains and the hissing sound just normal for LT headers?

I drove a L99, 2013, thanks a lot!

I don't hear any hissing sound from my headers. Did you use exhaust silicone at the joints.

year of the snake ....look out.... lol, your couple of spot welds that basically are what is holding the rear of your cats in the rear exhaust is......... lame, there should be a clamp applying pressure to squeeze the pipe together or at least some kind of sealer if not a total weld around has a clip just hanging there covered in snake slobber

There is a clamp there and it is tight. The pointed welding was intended to double secure the cat-back.

i welded some of the connections and the hissing sound reduces a lot, though it still exists. If the stains are signs of leaking, i will have them all welded up.

Hi-temp exhaust silicone should be used at each joint where you have a clamp. It helps seal against small leaks.

Thanks for telling me. Do you think the stain is a issue?

How will you remove them if you weld them buddy. That exhaust silicone sounds like the fix. Either that or my plan C which will really work but require widening the stock X pipe to 2.5" ID. The picture below is my current setup fix. No leaks but this is with a 2.5" ID to 2.25" OD adapter that reduces the 2.5" oh the X pipe side. The result is very good low end torque increase but restricts the high end exhaust flow a bit so this is why I prefer my plan C which retains the 2.5" ID for proper exhaust flow.

HTP high temperature paint. Used as a marking to see if it comes loose. Also used to protect from corrosion. The stock clamps will look like crap when the rust sets in. Honestly welding is a fix now PITA later idea.

I will talke to a local shop and see whether they can implement your plan. The previous shop slightly welded the joints and it is now a problem and thats why i am thinking about full weld at the joints. Taking them off is gonna be hard. Thanks for your advice. So professional!
