I was told on my 1st week production 2012 Vert that the top problems and holes were a result of me putting the top down wet and it was my fault. Fast forward from my August delivery to my February 12 buyback of said car. Who was right? Me. Inherent defect in the top.

The only thing of any real concern for me is the electric steering.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Cobalt one of the Killer Cars?
I bought 2 of them. One for my oldest daughter, one for my mother. Both my daughter and mother (RIP) had zero issues at all with the cars. None. My daughter put 140k miles on hers. My mother put 40k before she passed away. Maybe the ignition switch is not a 100% defect? My 02 Vette had an ignition switch recall, uh, maybe 10 years ago? Never had it done, never had a problem either. Since 1998, I've bought at least 15 GM vehicles, 6 trucks, 2 minivans, 2 Vettes, a Camaro, 2 Cobalts, 1 Volt, 1 CTS-V. None have had a problem with the ignition switch. All but the Volt and CTS are key type ignitions. While I do proper maintenance, I'm what you'd call an animal. I go through tires and brakes like most people go through oil filters. I just got back from beating the snot out of the Volt at an AutoX track. It impressed a LOT of people. Silent Death. You'd think that if anyone would have problems with GM quality it would be me. But nothing out of the ordinary, and FAR better than the 3 Nissans I owned.

Electric assist has a better MTBF than belt driven units. All the car companies are switching to it. Kind of like electric radiator fans. And electric windows. And electric braking control. And electric engine starter motors.

Today my wife and I were out enjoying some top down cruising in the Camaro and what did we see, a late model (less than 5 year old) Toyota Tundra sitting on the side of the road with the hood up and the owner leaning against the side with his arms folded and a look of disgust on his face.... Another happy Toyota owner...

Not 100% up to date. But GM not doing to bad compared with everybody else. People just watch the news too much and run around like chicken little. GM build vehicles that are affordable to purchase. Seem to have quality the same or better than everything in the same price range( the last 10 years). And are extremely affordable to repair. GM has a very extensive durability test facility. Go ahead buy parts for the foreign cars even the ones built here in America. See what it'll cost ya. I've worked on just about every make and model through the years. And most people wouldn't drive there car if they knew how It was built and what is actually holding it together lol. Last edited by Slickcas; 06-07-2014 at 06:43 PM. |

Again I owned 4 of the ignition switch models and also have family members that have owned some of them with not one incident of accidental shutoff. And this I believe is probably the case in 99% of those cars.

While not required by law to do so, they put a 10 year, 120,000 mile warranty extension on them. The bulletin covers ALL. Repeat ALL. Repeat ALL, LSA engines from 2009 to 2013. Engines produced in 2014 are not included. That is because the problem was fixed before any 2014 models were produced. Nice way to misrepresent the issue! You should work for CNN or a law office.

If you answer , don't dance around ! Please . After all , it's just 1% , right ? On the issue you had on your Camaro , that's a comple different case The GM guy that authorized your work done by an outside service shop , had approval from above , I'm with you that he could just have said no , but it's like plying golf just to make deals You came up good on that one , just as fast you could had gone bad Yes , if one has a faul mouth , they play defense But the case on hand HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THAT. , those JACKELS KNEW ABOUT IT , and did what , that's right , NOTHING. |

Just curious. Most are electric now. I busted the belt driven PS on a 2000 SS Camaro racing it. I kept racing AFTER it broke, and won my class. Today I seriously abused the PS unit on a Chevy Volt. It's electric. No problem. Cliff Notes: Do you pee standing up?
