Imagine getting speeding tickets in the mail based on this info. In case you hadn't noticed these companies and the government don't care one little bit about your privacy when there is money to be made.

Of course they will tell you that it's all for the good of the general public and plenty of people will buy into the BS.
As long as there is a free market of people willing to pay for insurance that does not require this, there will be insurance companies offering insurance to that group.

Not to mention, this would be hard to do to cars that have no OnStar etc. There are still lots of old cars and trucks on the road. I own two myself and intend to drive them until the wheels fall off.

Who said anything about it being a witch hunt?! You seriously need to chill out and relax a bit! The way you go about correcting others and trying to prove your point just makes you look like a big douche.

So, every once in a while I will take the time to fill out one of those forms that initiates a "best rate" quote from several other companies. Allstate, Progressive, GEICO, etc... I have even contacted USAA for a quote. NO ONE can even come close to the rates I am getting with State Farm - no contest.
I've been with USAA for 40 years. They take care of most all my financial needs.

It's definitely not worth 5% or 9% or whatever to help push along the idea that it's acceptable for my insurance company to electronically monitor my driving. This is definitely a slippery slope and will lead to increased monitoring in the future for "even more savings" (i.e., they increase the rates for non-compliant drivers).

Honestly, I'm bothered that some find this agreeable....but to each his own, I guess.

heh..I imagine the State Farm offer in the future -- "And if you allow us to download some data from your social media, such as your photos, friends list, and likes, we'll determine your risk based upon the movies you enjoy (i.e., Driving Miss Daisy vs Fast and Furious)." Unbelievable? 10 years ago, this would have been unbelievable too, I suspect.

Problem is their culture isn't willing to except change and they continue down the same path. We shortly left them and went to Geico and went from over $4k a year to $2,600 a year same vehicle coverage. I had 6 cars, a motorcycle and two houses insured with them. We were recently rear-ended by a Mack truck and Geico's service was excellent. Not knocking SF on service, just their cost for the same service.
So bizarre. I had almost the opposite experience. Switching to State Farm saved me almost 50% over Geico. I guess it just depends on the market and vehicles, etc.

The less companies know... the better. Nobody should ever give up personal privacy in exchange for money - ever IMO.
