Camaro's are ranked one of the top cars in resale value i read somewhere this year . Dealers wont give you what the car is worth

Remember that TTL can't really be included in the "value" per se. It was an expense of the transaction and didn't add any value to the vehicle itself.

And, realize that in your calculations, you only "lose" 1000/month if you actually sell the car. Right now your loss is on paper. To sell the car is to make it real.

But, aside from that, I think that value sounds low. Start by looking at NADA and KBB values and also take a gander at what people are asking as sales prices (queue up Autotrader.com with an unlimited search radius).

i have bought my last 4 cars new. yes, you take the hit on depreciation but i usually keep my cars 8 to 10 years, and its not an issue with me holding on to them that long. i am picky about my cars, so i buy new so i know how its been treated, etc.
my 2013 camaro has 2180 miles on it now, i got it new a year ago. sure, it has depreciated, but most all cars do. they are the worst investment to get your moneys worth . but, i cant see trading a car in a year or two after purchase, thats where i think a person takes a real hit.

I appreciate all the feed back, there is a little more to the story though. 4 members have gone to the same dealer to try and trade there camaros in on a 15 1LE and have all been low balled on their car. I have actually done my homework on this, there is a 2014 2ss in my garage and we still have the 2013. Not going to get rid of any of them now. But I'm sure as hell going to buy a brand new one again. I just talked to another dealer down the road bout 40 miles and was offered $29,000. I was happy with this but they have nothing I want! I think we will keep what we got!

I have been into cars my whole liffe and had many cars from imports to muscle to exotics. The car depreciation model is simple: 17%, and 9% each year after (all based on true invoice of the car with option). As an example, a 2012 car that invoiced at $30k it's depreciated 35% and worth $19.5k (17+9+9, current model year is 2015, thus three years counting down to 12). Trade in could be as low as 85% of this number. A non-clean Carnac is a 15% reduction from this number. Sound simple

There are cars that hold their value better than others. The Camaro doesn't hold it's value so well. There are some cars on the other end of that spectrum, like an STi. An '04 with over 100k miles still goes for $20k+

When I bought my 2ss I traded in my first car I bought. I asked for $6000, the chevy dealership that I was looking at the v6 at the time only offered 3k. My car was 10yrs old and in great shape. So a buddy called about the 2ss and would work with my trade in, well he offered me $5500 for my car. So call around and work with the dealers, some may give you close to what your asking for but don't expect close to retail when you got it.

often there is a big difference between KBB and NADA. dealers like to use the high number to sell it, low number for trade-ins

trading in is just for convenience... and of course they often low-ball because you'd be surprised how many people just take it.

a 10 2ss with low low miles is $29k on the lot. The Camaro holds its value better than anything else in the gm line up.

My 2013 2LS was 22000 new, and I got 19000 for it with 20000 miles after owning it a year.

I Know I wont be able to pull off that kind of low depreciation on my '14 1LS. Now that I am retiring, this one should be the keeper and not get flipped for another so quickly.

I experienced the same thing. I ordered my 2SS/RS and received it in Feb '14, window sticker was $42,500, I paid $38,100. Now, just 9 months (7,000 miles) later, trade-in is $32,000.

A $10,500 hit off the window sticker and actual loss of $6,100 in less than a year.

The problem is there are PLENTY of new and slightly used 2014 Camaro SS's available! You can probably buy a brand new loaded 2014 2SS for $32-34K so that kills the resale value of our cars. Just goes to show you really have to pound a good initial deal when you buy a car.

I must've had a very unusual experience a couple of months back when I traded in my three year old Jeep (with some scratches and dents) for 2000 over KBB and got my SS for thousands under MSRP. I think they really wanted my business. I was very happy with the transaction, but honestly couldn't figure why they'd do it that way.
