1969 Firebird

Not a Camaro. This was my second Firebird. Somehow this came up in another thread, so I figured I would post here as well.

OP, I remember those days well, nice car. So, here is a story for you. In 1978 my father somehow ran across a beautiful red 1968 Firebird that he bought from the owners son of a Ford dealership! I loved the tach in the hood. The car had just come from the drag strip and the time of 10.88 was still on the window. Slicks were just taken off and 50's were put on and the glass pack mufflers were in the trunk. It had a built 400 and auto transmission. I could shift that car at 20 mph and chirp the tires. It ran pretty darn good.

One day I was driving, not speeding or anything, and a cop was going in the opposite direction. He did a u-turn, got behind me, and pulled me over. He proceeded to tell me that he had been looking for this car and that I wasn't the person that he was looking for. The previous owner had several speeding tickets and I guess had been doing some street racing. Thanks for the post, it brought back an interesting memory!

Cool, I had a '67 Firebird 400 big block too. It had a Muncie Rock-crusher which was so much fun to rip through the gears. I remember rolling at about 10 mph then hammering it and literally ripping a rear tire off, yeah it was pretty bald. Good times.

had a '68 with a 428 block, 421 crank, ram air 4 heads, 389 forged steel rods, dual quad holly intake, TH400, 4:11 and was a tire smoker! With the Micky slicks -- it was a lot of fun! Hit 10's with that thing ;o)
Gotta love those first gens -- that's why I love the 5th gens -- they are awesome reminders with all the latest toys too!

I'm with you, those were good times!
