Great story! Sounds like that guy was just a bit jealous.

I bought my SS cuz it's the car I wanted so badly in high school and couldn't afford. (THAT car was an 89 Iroc Z) I spent the next 20 years driving econo boxes telling myself I was being practical. I almost bought a Prius once in a very weak moment. Anyway, after I passed 40 I stopped caring so much about whether or not I had room to haul everyone around anymore and decided to get exactly what I wanted to spend my days driving. I didn't compromise, didn't settle, and brought home the car I'd always wanted.

I have a friend who goes nuts for muscle cars and wants a Camaro so bad he could scream. He has no kids, no reason for a 4 door, and yet when the time came he went home with a 30K Kia Hybrid instead. It's the most boring thing I've ever laid eyes on. I asked him why he didn't get a Camaro instead and he just shrugged and said he couldn't bring himself to sacrifice the gas mileage.

Sad really. But everyone has their reasons I guess. Meanwhile...I've got my dream car.

I sacrificed getting one in 2001 when I got married. No regrets, and never looked back. Flash forward to 2013 and my wife caught me looking at them on the internet. She told me to get one because she knows that's what I always wanted.

I've spent the past decade trying to work on my older cars. 75 Duster 79 Z28 72 F100. Then picked up a 80 Firebird. Maybe it was a combination of too many, but each has served a purpose, Duster is my HS car, Truck was my dads, the 79 Z28 reminded me of the one I grew up in as a kid. And the Firebird was a mistake, but I love how it looks. Then when we look at time, between a career in the Air Force, deployments, a home renovation and now our son is 2, time is just not there. But after a few promotions, I was itching to throw in the towel and buy something new. The desire and allure of driving an older car was dwindling, my tastes had changed. I wanted something that did everything, I was building 3 cars for 3 purposes, the new Z/28 does it all really well and that is what I needed, craved it, had dreams about it. I was planning to wait for the anticipated end of year sale, but when my car came up on Ebay, I had to pull the trigger. AGM without A/C, sweet, the 79 Z28 was going to be a stripped down racecar with zero compromise and alot of carbon fiber. But, it lacked safety, engineering, fit/finish, and the 79 Z28 was a mass produced blue collar hotrod, I needed something with a little refinement. So I discussed it with my wife, secured the funds and bought my dream car, my unicorn, a car I could never build. I then booked a flight to TX, it was love at first sight, I proceeded to drive it 2500 miles to NJ, a 2.5 day journey that helped me get over the emotional connection with the other 3 cars I just gave up on. You could call it a mid life crisis, but I would like to think I will live beyond 66 years old. I need to see this car sell at Barrett-Jackson in 2060!

Was not a camaro fan after the 1st gen. Would have bought a mustang if not for the 5th gen. Had a 69 SS I bought as a present to myself for career accomplishments. Had a fella stop by and admire it one day while I was working in the yard. He ask me ..How much for the camaro? ...I jokingly said a astronomical amount and said cash..we reminisced about the good old days and long lost hot rods. He thanked me for my time and looking at my car and left. 2 days later,I'm at work and the wife calls and says...There's someone here and he said he's here to buy the camaro..she says...I didn't know it was for sale.. Isaid I didn't know it was for sale either...Low and behold, the guy had went to the bank and got the cash. Being a man of my word I reluctantly sold it to him..and then....I saw it..the 5th gen. I knew I had to have one. I got on the Computer and found the one I wanted. Drove to the dealership on a Sunday to make sure it was on the lot. The mechanic was there and got the keys..told me he couldn't let me drive it but I could sit in it and check it out..The next morning I called and told them I was coming to get it. I cant remember ever being more happy. I grinned all the way home..It is still just as much fun to drive today as it was the day it drove it off the lot. Driving had gotten mundane. A means from point a to b....Thank You GM

I am 59, retired four years now. Had a beautiful 2009 Victory Red Chevy Impala which was close to being paid off. Always been a Chevy guy and had an opportunity to get a 2014 Camaro RS. And I took it. Who wouldn't want one of these babies. My goodness I wanted one since the 70s. And now I have one and I love it death. And with all the knowledge base on this Forum, the future is so bright, I have to wear shades. Hope to see you all in KY. in August.

I was 19 when I bought my first car; a used 1978 yellow camaro with a straight 6 250. I have a wife and four kids now. Yes, we have a family vehicle, but I have stubbornly refused to drive anything but a Camaro over the years. I guess my wife puts up with it for whatever reason, though she does not share my love for them.

My kids (all girls) love the Camaro too.

Retired from the Army in '93 w 18 yrs & 4 yrs in the Marines(2 combat tours). But had 2 '68s/1-69 & a 77-Z28 throughout my young life. When they came out with the Gen5 I was like a 16yr old kid again! All my cars were nice but nothing like I can afford(mods) on this CamaroSS. MID Life crisis? Hell Yeah & don't care what anybody thinks or says... this is America!!!!!!!!!

Well I had a 1990 Rs for a "first" car so I may be bias. lol Although I did have a 1992 Fox body Mustang 5.0 at the same time. Loved the Camaro more. I purchased mine right before I was medically discharged from the Army. 60% disabled vet at 28yrs old..might as well get something for the things I can't do. Oh crap...Now I want the new Corvette.. :p
