SF Bay Area Performance shop that can install 3.91 gears and recalibrate
Hey Guys. Any local members know of a performance shop in the East bay that can install 3.91 gears if I purchase them (and recalibrate) *other* than a dealer? I ask cause the dealer quoted me $2000 to have them installed and the gear kits themselves can be purchased for like $400.

I would drive to Vegas. The SF area did not seem rod friendly to me. Maybe Oakland, but I was too scared to go there.

Good luck getting your speedo recalibrated. I had 3.91 gears installed at a dealer and they told me no problem recalibrating the speedo but in the end they couldn't do it. They claim that GM doesn't have the software to do the calibration. I called every dealer within 50 miles and several of them told me it would be no problem but I asked them to check before I dropped the car off. One by one they all called me back and said they couldn't do it. I went 2 years with the speedo showing 10MPH faster and mileage stacking up that I didn't actually drive.
I got lucky when I contacted the company that did my engine tune. They said they think they could do it by hooking up their laptop to the cars computer. I wasn't very confident that they would be able to do it but thankfully they did recalibrate the speedo to the 3.91 gears. You better check with the dealer to be sure they can recalibrate to the 3.91 gear ratio. The dealer that did my gear change was SURE they could do the recalibration but they were wrong. Good luck. I have been getting quotes form $1300 to $1400 at some local Chevy Performance shops around here. If I could get it done for $950 I would drop it off tomorrow

On a serious note, I bought the gears with just the pinion nut, ring bolts and crush sleeve for $250 and went to put them in myself. When I could not get the yoke to seat with a 3/4 drive ratchet and a cheater pipe I call the machine shop and he sent me to an old timer who did remaining work for $250.
If you take the diff out and take it to a shop with the gears, they can probably install whatever kit you buy for $300-350. At 2011, your almost out of warranty so do you really need a dealership to put gears in. Hell, for an extra 2k more than what they are asking you can have the ZL1 kit which has way more strength than the AAM 218mm ever will and it comes with HD axles too.
