I've researched this on the forum. A number of members have had the fan replaced (cut out as described) only to have the noise come back eventually on the new fan.

I'll stick with the occasional squeak on the original fan.

My 2010 had the fan squeak. It took 4 years, but it did quiet down.

I never thought it was worth tearing into to fix. If it stopped working, that would be another matter.

I have the issue as well.

As for the GM reps on this site... they are of no help ever. Escalate this to someone. There are dozens of cases in this thread alone and I would wager hundreds, if not thousands, more by the sounds of it.

We have a 2010 HHR and it has squeaked after a yr at low speed. Now my 5 month old new 14 Camaro with 4K miles has the same low speed squeak.. Turn the music up and I cant hear it. But I know it's there.

Is that opening in the back middle an access to the motors spindle?

That's it! Sometimes mine is even quieter and more subtle. FYI I rode in a co-worker's CTS yesterday and she had the same squeak. I laughed out loud when I heard it. She said she never even knew it was there until I pointed it out.

I had the squeak on my 2010 and after two trips to the dealer to convince them it existed they claim to have replaced it. The following winter it came back. I didn't bother with it at that point but it drives me nuts.

Getting ready to replace mine for the 2nd time. Originally replaced a couple years ago and now it's ready to be swapped again. I will read through this section/thread a little bit, but if anyone has a DIY, it would be appreciated (out of warranty now).

If you had it replaced once already then DIY is trivial.

Remove Glovebox (push in at top on both side to get plastic pins to clear, then just tilt all the way forward and it will fall out ).

Remove the two black screws holding the dash (where the box mounts).
Pull it down a little to expose two more black screws securing the floot vent tube.
Remove the two black screws and wiggle the vent down and out.

Blower motor cover is held in by silver screws, remove those and remove cover (pull straight back towards you).

Disconnect harness.

Blower motor is held in by 3 silver bolt head screws as well. Remove those and fan should come right out.

I just ordered this to replace, claims it has bearings instead of bushings so will let you know how it works.
