If you plan on going to the drag strip a lot then an auto would be the way to go if you want to be consistently fast, but I always have a blast in my M6.
Something about banging all the gears, even missing a gear and screaming every cuss word imaginable can make that pass amusing. Stock good years a terrible when wet or in tempatures below 40 so ditch those and do some research on which ones to upgrade too. A lot of options out there

Why would you let the auto tranny control the 580 stock hp?
Just a thought......

As many people here I traded in my SS for a ZL1 and thought it was a huge upgrade IMO. And manual to me is a lot more fun to drive, more low end torque as well.
Auto is alright if your going to seriously hit the drag strip or drive the car a lot. People try and claim the auto is way faster, I just think they need to learn to launch with a manual transmission. True but you never know he might mod it. I my self would like 650hp so I can beat my Dad's hellcat..

Got a barn burner of deal on this car, as winter is just around the corner here. Now to patiently do some breaking in.

Welcome to the club. ZL1 is an awesome car. Whether you stay stock or go into mod madness, it's great either way.
