Lowering my third gen questions
Hey guys new to the site. Im 19 and have redone my 85 Z28 over the last 6 years. I have been looking at lowering the front between 1 and 2 inches. Does anyone know if i need knew shocks or can i just get the springs and will there be any mods necessary to the fender wells? Any other input?

Just the lowering springs are needed for ride height. If you want better ride quality than good struts front and shocks rear are needed.

you really need re-valved shocks if you are going to be lowering the vehicle. i'll be back for this in a minute.

Chances are that even though you shouldn't need new struts for the lowering, you'll find you need new struts anyway due to age, wear etc. unless you know they've been replaced somewhat recently.

If you're going to lower the front you might as well lower the back as well. The car is going to ride funny if you put aftermarket springs up front and not the back. The old worn out, saggy springs in the back are going to feel more loose than the front. And please don't cut the stock springs. When springs are made they are manufactured to give the optimal ride at a particular height. Cutting them throws the whole geometric equation off and it rides like poo. Whey don't you just get a set of Hotchkis lowering springs, which will lower it approximately 1.5" front and back. Here's how they look on my car:

Hey everyone!
I have an 87 Trans am with eibach sportline springs and kyb gr2 struts in the front and same shocks in the back. Looks the same as the camaro in the post above. Almost ashamed to say it rides better than my 2011 RS. Other than the fact of the draw backs of the solid axel in the back |
