Front tires on a 10" wheel

I'm sure this type of thread has been beat to hell, but dos anyone that's running a 10" wheel such as the Zl1 replica or MRR 228 notice any pro's or con's from these 2 sizes below?

275/40-20 = 28.7" tall, 9.0-9.5 wheel
285/35-20 = 28.9" tall, 9.0-10.0 wheel

I'm leaning towards the 275 but on a 10" wheel, technically is a tire still 28.7" (factory height)?

I know on the rear with a 315 I'll be approximately 28.7" tall on a 11"

The width of the wheel will not change the height of the tire. The 275 will be the same height on a 9 or 10 inch wheel.

What are you going to do with the car? I have 10.5" wheels up front on my car, and I ran 295/30 Pilot Super Sports for combined street/autox use. I got a third set of wheels at the beginning of the month for dedicated autox use, so I'm going to drop to a 275/40 on the street. *The sidewall may have a little more stretch than some people like aesthetically, but the manufacturer states the tire to be safe on an 11" wide wheel.* Anyway, if you're looking for the better handling size of the two, the larger contact patch will be better, but if you don't need the front end grip as much, there is a larger and cheaper selection of 275/40 tires available. Also, a 275/40 will be taller than a 285/35.

Mostly just toying around town and some interstate driving. Honestly I just want to stay at stock height and NOT have "Too much" of the rim sticking past the tire wall. Thanks bud

Not true it will be slightly more stretched' losing a bit of side wall height.
OP, go with a 35 series side wall. 40 series has no business on this car.
275/35 or 285/35 on a 10" is fine. If you have aggressive offsets go with the 275/35. I'm on 275/35 with a 9.5" front and 295/35 on a 11" rear. With aggressive setups

That's a bit of a stretch.. No pun intended. Lol. The difference in height would be miniscule if at all with a 275 on 9" and a 10" rim. maybe a tenth inch or so. A 275 tire doesn't have to be stretched on a 10" rim as it's within the recommended wheel widths. As for the 40 series having no business on these cars, not sure why you'd say that. Are you saying the sidewall is too tall with a 40 series? The factory rears are 40 series and as you know the same sidewall height as the 245 45 front factory tire. Also the same sidewall height as a 315/35/20. So they shouldn't have come from the factory with a 40 series? Just trying to understand why you said that.

Your choice of sidewall aspect ratio, like everything else, should depend on what you want to do with the car. From March until around Thanksgiving of this year, I was on 295/30 Pilot Super Sports. That's a short sidewall on a tire that runs stiff anyway, so I had a tire that responded well on the autocross course and back roads, but didn't ride that well around town. Next year, I'll move to two summer sets, and run a 275/40 during the week, and a 285/35 for autocross. For a driver who isn't demanding a lot of the car regularly, the 40 section sidewall can have a nice comfort tradeoff.

Thanks for all of the input folks. After reading all of the comments and seeing the numbers in front of me it all seems more clear now.

To keep from wasting 2 tires so to speak... For now I'm going to put 305 series on the rear 11" and run the stock REAR 275/40's up front on the 10." That saves me the price of 2 tires for now. The trade off is that 305 Pirelli P-Zeros are expensive!
I just hope the TPM and stabil-trac monitoring doesn't freak out on the 275/305 combo.
