That safety course doesn't mean diddly. My Dad and Mom take one through AARP and the insurance gives them the $20 it costs them to take it.

We have had Farmers for some years and for the few claims we have had we were treated above my expectations.
That is a great price for Chicago... I'm with State Farm... I'm driving under the <6k miles a year plan and I pay $660 year.

I would stay away from the no name companies as they can be difficult to deal with when you have a claim.

When shopping, try to compare apples to apples with deductables and types of coverage. Whatever you do, don't skimp on uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage. There are far too many people out there driving without insurance or with just the state minimums. It's crazy how many states have minimums as low as $10K Bodily Injury and $20K in Property Damage liability.

A good friend of mine who lives in FL purchased a new GMC Denali last year and it was totaled in the first month of ownership due to a guy who ran a red light and hit him. The guy had the state minimum in coverage and the payout wasn't even close to the value of the vehicle. My friend's insurance kicked in and payed the difference. Just a crappy situation to find yourself in.

Good luck with your search and I hope you find quality coverage at a decent price!

This ^^^^

It is apple to oranges comparing our rates all over the country, ages and driving records with your rates. Call or go online and get a handful of quotes for the same coverage.

I thought Geico was screwing me, so I went online and found out everyone charged within $25 for the same coverage.

However, if you bundle with renters or homeowners insurance you will get a better price.

is there any way i can lower my insurance, besides turning 25?

Turning 25 isn't a magic age that will lower your rates. As Mr Stacy stated insurance companies have math wizards called Actuaries that take almost every kind of variable into consideration to calculate your rates. FL is tough state to insure in because they have some of the lowest state minimums and insurance companies usually end up having to cover their insured regardless of fault.

There are just WAY too many variables in play for someone to ask on a national forum why their insurance rates are higher or lower than someone else. Call your insurance company and ask what you can do to possibly lower your rates.

I'd say you're getting screwed. I pay a bit lower. But I'm paying based on my financed amount, not what the car is worth, parking insurance on my old vehicle, more milage, I'm younger than you, and no driver training since I took right before I got my license 9 years ago. If I was in your position I'd expect to be paying about 100 or less per month.

Here are a few links I found that may help answer questions about insurance rates and factors that are taken into consideration in determining those rates.

From State Farm:https://www.google.com/search?client...UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

Money Crashers:http://www.moneycrashers.com/factors...surance-rates/

DMV.org:http://www.dmv.org/insurance/car-ins...te-factors.php

Each state is different but these cover the typical factors.

Credit Score, rent or own, garaged or parked outside, miles driven per year, HS or college educated and about 20 other factors most people know nothing about.

Insurance rates are determined by the state's Ins. Commissioner.

Insurance threads are pointless. Sure, I could easily pay $40.00 a month for full coverage, get in an accident, and be screwed because they find a reason not to pay out. Happens all the time. You absolutely cannot compare insurance rates. It's almost as complicated as asking "How much do you pay in taxes per year and what are your exemptions?"

I pay $200.00 a month for max coverage, includes everything including new car replacement, lowest deductible, etc. My wife drives my premiums up because she's had speeding tickets and an accident in her car.

The State of South Carolina is also #6 out of the top 10 states with the most amount of accidents per year (because about half the population has no issue driving drunk or high on something. It's a state pastime to run red lights around here. Yellow means go faster and Red means put the hammer down to these yocals).

Two of my co-workers just bought new cars. A Toyota Corolla 2016, pays $150 a month. Honda Accord 2016, Pays more than I do. Both are 4 cylinder vehicles. One has excellent credit, and the other has "average" credit.

I have a Modified Mustang GT with ALL modifications covered under Ins so I get my money back if something happens, and all modifications are also warrantied. My Deductible is less than a steak dinner and a drink for myself. (not including wife).

It's completely pointless to compare Ins. and I keep saying this because these threads, there's just no way to make a fair comparison so they are really rather pointless and come up about once a month.

Depends on your driving record and mileage. Then, even if those are perfect, if you're young they'll screw you over

Insurance is nothing more than gambling. The Insurance company is betting you will NOT get in a wreak, and you are betting that you WILL.

Plus the insurance company cheats. They look at your vehicle, credit, lifestyle, address, marital status, economic status, age, years on the job, kids, what you buy at the store, public records, and what brand of TP you use to wipe your ass. They put all this info into a computer that spits out some numbers.

One number is how likely you are to get into an accident. If that number is at a certain level, they refer you do a whole different department, like "high risk" or equivalent.

Shop around.
