I have been averaging 20.0 miles per gallon over the last 3 months. Half highway, half around town miles. I figured it would be better than that but I am not going to complain.

I thought I was getting horrible mileage until I reset the MPG, now it shows 23-24 MPG. (2SS A6)

My L99 gets a good average(by my calculations and the computer's) of 24mpg on a full-to-empty tank with all highway miles driving at 70-80mph. Not bad I thought.

P.S. Oklahoma and Texas are pretty flat. lol

When you fill up, reset the average fuel ecomomy and reset your trip. At the next fill up take your miles driven divided by your gallons added, and look at your average fuel economy on the dash.....they should be within +/- .5mpg off.

Mine has been very accurate so far and I've done this method at least 7-10 times.

I've discovered that my SS/M6 gets about 18mpg for my normal back-and-forth-to-work driving. I was a little disappointed, but then I took a long trip and got 23mpg. Seemed about right.

Now, if I drive Boo like I was running from her shotgun-toting father -- which happens more often than it should, probably -- I can easily get 10mpg.

But that 10mpg is fun.

I just got a Camaro and it is averaging about 17 mpg. The average speed of my trips is only 20 mph (and I have confirmed this with a manual measurement of distance and time). I know everyone else has said this, but try resetting your fuel economy indicator and your average speed measurement. It makes it difficult to compare your fuel economy without indicating your average speed (for me, my trip is short and mostly city streets and no highway driving). I don't think you will do much better than this if you are driving as slow as I am.

I've heard that on modern cars the A/C compressor is always on, so it doesn't matter if it's on or not as far as MPG is concerned. Is this true ?.

Something is wrong, I average between 21 and 25 in my 2SS manual depending on my foot.

4,300 miles driven so far and I am still averaging 23 mpg and average speed of 42 mph. Something is not right with your V6.

This is exactly how you need to check to see your (close to) actual fuel economy. Never 100% trust the computer. Maybe a bad comparison (since it's a ford), but the actual compared to the computer in my current car is off by 4mpg, in favor of the actual. Also, make sure you're not giving too fun of rides to school before the car is actually broken in. I'm sure there's a forum or two here about the break in process for the vehicle.

This is before pulling the fuses because the wife put in regular at one time and just found out about bad computers not correcting for poor fuel.
What is this issue with the fuses? Also what has found to be the best octane fuel for the car?

Is it an auto or manual car? The reason I ask is that I've seen situations on other vehicles where the shift cable on an auto wasn't allowing the transmission to have overdrive selected. The shifter was in the circle D setting, but the transmission or the PCM was seeing only D. Might be one issue...because if your car can't get into overdrive...then it will chug gas.

I know you aren't doing this, but I have to say that I was always suprised how many people with overdrive 6 speed manual transmissions never used 6th and then wondered why their mileage sucked!

Good luck with your car...I'm sure it is something really simple that the dealer can find and fix.
