Oh please.... can we??? Trump Trump Trump!!

So grammar is a pet peeve of mine as well. I am back in college and to read some of the articles and comments these college kids write are heart wrenching! I feel like I'm having a stroke reading them. It's truly terrible! I weep for our future.

My wife and I are watching Downton Abbey which is set in a 20-25 year time span from the Titanic sinking through WWI and I believe up to WWII. Yes, it's set in England and they do have the Brit accent, but every word that comes out of any mouth from the Lord down to the servants is proper. The first few episodes take some getting accustom to hearing UK English. It's worth the watch though if you're into English history. We just finished season 2.

Perhaps one of the most interesting and colorful words in the English language is the word "****." It is the one magical word, which, just by it's sound describes pain, pleasure, love, and hate. In language, "****" falls into many grammatical categories. It can be used as a verb, both transitive (John ****ed Mary) and intransitive (Mary was ****ed by John). It can be an active verb (Mary doesn't really give a ****); or an adverb (Mary is really ****ing interested in John); and as a noun, (Mary is a terrific ****). It can be used as an adjective (Mary is ****ing beautiful). As you see, there are very few words with the versatility of "****."
What I'm trying to say is Who ****ing Cares......

The END!!!!

Yes. This.

If you ever find any old school textbooks from the 1950's or earlier at a garage sale or wherever, read through one. The way they speak and use the language (properly) will blow your mind and make you weep for the future.

This topic happens about once a year on every car forum. Thanks again for the reminder that English is a tough language to master.

For me, I can get past the misspellings. It's the long posts that lack the punctuation that makes it understandable. Sure, we're all using electronic devices these days that auto correct spelling but they don't suggest most punctuation.

The auto correct in many ways is a huge mistake. It breeds laziness. It's like calculators. The 17-20 year olds at my wife's job can't even subtract $5 from $20 to make change.

Additionally why does auto correct substitute the word yo when I'm trying to use the word to. It also inserts font instead of don't. There's always a possibility you accidentally misspell something but yo doesn't enter my vocabulary. Maybe I got
the urban version of the iPad.

Yo, the MXO is delayed. Oh wait. It worked. I font believe it.

Why does auto correct always mark don't, wouldn't and other like them as misspelled?

For me, I like that people start these kinds of threads or have conversations about grammar and the proper use of the English language.
Sometimes and old refrigeration guy needs a reminder or two about these things.

THIS. I get that some people can't spell...but when people ramble on and don't use even one period, I am just like, really?

Don't get me started on making change. THAT drives me crazy, how can you not know how to subtract any number from 100? I usually end up doing it in my head when the little dweeb running the register hits the wrong button. They just stand there, staring at the money in their hand, then at the register, than back to their hand, etc., until I tell them what my change is.

And reading an analog clock? Forget it. I find it horribly frightening that some of these kids can get a college degree, yet the big hand and the little hand stump them!

Let's not forget about "lose" and "loose."

Lose: To not win. I'll never lose to a Mustang! You're a loser because you drive a Ford Focus!
Loose: Not tight. I left my lug nuts loose and my wheel fell off.
