I suppose once the Vette (or if) goes to mid-engine then the gap will widen in terms of overall performance. No one really knows the exact period that one can predict the change to a mid-engine platform.

Now, the 6th gen Camaro is truly as close to the Corvette as it has ever been in terms of overall performance. Given some of the numbers the 1LE is getting on tracks, the 6th gen Camaro seems to have stolen the title of "performance bargain" away from the Corvette. The ZL1 seems to be one heck of a car as well. The Alpha platform has really put the Camaro in whole new class. The Corvette is always going to have some advantages just from it's design. Transverse spring suspension and lower center of gravity, combined with the inherent weight savings from the materials is always going to put the Corvette a step in front, model to model. Now, compare the ZL1 to the base Corvette? I guess it would really depend on the track and the driver. Where the Corvette goes from here is a good question. It would be a huge roll of the dice for GM to change it's platform to a mid-engine elite supercar. With the probability that doing so would put the base model deep into six figures, will there be enough of a market to support it? |

The Corvette and Camaro may be close in performance now, but once the new (LT5?) DOHC V8 is introduced, the performance gap will once again widen in favor of the Vette.

1. Define the term "better".
2. Any answer to the OP's original question is purely subjective.

If you're gonna get a C6 Vette, at the very least get a Z06 and do some things to that interior, because it's awful. People act like interior doesn't matter, but it does... in the C6 Vette, interiors are absolute trash. The steering wheel comes off a 2005 Cobalt, the seats look like they were made in China and the dash looks like something off of an early 2000's Honda Civic. Not trying to flame anyone, because the C7 is in a totally different league. But while the Camaro interior doesn't exactly scream German luxury car, it's still century's ahead in terms of quality vs the C6 vette. Now like other's have said, if going fast and all around better performing vehicle is your priority, then yes... the C6 Vette is without question the better vehicle. If you want all around ride quality, looks, feel, etc. then go with the Camaro. That's exactly why I chose mine. |

I have both a 2010 SS and a 2014 Stingray with the Z51 package and I enjoy them both, each one has its strong and weak points

Stock vs. stock, I would choose corvette everyday. Problem is I didn't have Corvette money 4 years ago at 25, when I bought the SS. Today, I'd love to pick up a new Z06 with Z07 package

When I bought the Camaro, I was on fence between the '11 Ls3 SS, that I bought as a CPO, or an '08 Corvette with substantially higher miles. Now that the warranty is done, and never had to use any of it, I often wished I had gotten the Corvette. But I've never really kicked myself for the decision either. I like the Camaro just fine.

As a driver's car, the 'Vette wins hands down in my book. Especially against a 5th Gen. You can get a base LS3 C6 A6 in the 10's quite easily with stall, FBO, cam and tune. A Camaro needs a bit more because of the weight. Best bang for the buck driver's car is the C5Z and C6Z hands down. Both cars stock are ridiculously fast and when modded, well you get the point. If I had the scratch, I would want a C5Z with a cammed LS3 transplant honestly. Lightweight combined with 480+whp = smiles for miles!! A cammed C6Z is another league all on it's own really. I love the 5th, but in all honesty, the 5th is right where it belongs performance wise, right behind the 'Vette. I wish they'd make a modern reincarnation of the Nova and Chevelle again...........
