CarMax? Auto Trader?

Hey guys I have my Camaro listed under the following thread:

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=496651

and on my local craigslist. I haven't posted on Auto Trader yet. Will Carmax buy a modded car? Auto Trader has a cash offer option, will they buy a modded car?

I'm expecting "no" for answers and I'd assume they would low-ball me anyway.

Don't even bother with Carmax. I took mine there and the KBB and NADA trade in (not private party or retail) value was around $15,000-$16,000 they offered me $10,000. Also they said they will not take any cars that have mods other than exhaust and intake.

Just watched a YouTube video a couple days ago of a guy that brought in a 1000HP Supra to CarMax to see how much they would give him and they came back with $15,000. So needless to say, they will take it but you will get nothing for the mods but that's normal really unless you have a full on show car.

I sold my 2011 2LT at Carmax several months ago with the paint issues I was experiencing and got almost top dollar for it. I was pleased with what was offered and sold it to them. Chances are they will not know about the mods other than the intake and exhaust which is clearly visible. I would not hesitate to take your Camaro in to have them give you an offer which is usually good for one week. At least you will know where you stand.

I tried to work with them on trading an 06 Charger RT on the ZL1...The Charger was immaculate they offered me 9k and had some other Chargers on the lot for 17 to 18k that were older and not near the condition of mine...I told them if they were going to screw me it should at least be painless...I ended up selling the Charger to my son for $5,600.00 and got the ZL1 anyway...It really had nothing to do with the money, it was more inline with the principle...So in the end it worked out perfectly as my son was in need of much better car that he really could not afford...I moved the vehicle and got what I wanted...Didn't mean to ...

I used to work at CarMax in the shop and yes they will buy a modded car. They will not sell it on their lot though. They send it into the shop after they buy it and determine how much money it will take to put it back to stock. If that dollar amount surpasses a certain amount they just put it through their auction they hold once ever 1-2 weeks. They just start the the bidding at what they have in it. Another dealership come in and buys it and sells it on their lot.

Theyll buy it, but dont expect to get anywhere near what its worth. I used to work at a carmax, the car will either be sent through the auctions that carmax does, or they will swap the mods out for stock parts based on the value of the car.
