I'm assuming that the aftermarket lowering springs where the only parts changed. |

The SS springs always had a higher spring rate and if you use FE3 SS struts or the newer 2012 V6 struts with SS springs, I don't think you'll see any issues and will enjoy a more controlled, slightly firmer ride and slightly lower ride height. I ran my V6 for 5 years that way (FE3's from a 2012 SS and 2010 SS springs ) and it worked great. I finally went with a lower profile/wider than stock set of tires/wheels and changed to 2012 ZL1 springs on the same FE3 struts (ZL1 springs are 10mm shorter with the same SS spring rates- needed to close that gap between fender and shorter tire). This worked fine too, but did start to get a little "stiff" for my rapidly aging bones, LOL! I don't think you'll be disappointed by this proposed swap and still enjoy adequate ground clearance and not worry about every little driveway angle or speed bump. ![]() P.S. By far the biggest bang for your buck in suspension mods for 5th Gen cars is a set of aftermarket sway bars! Way easier to install and considerably more handling improvement! So my 2012 2LT should be ok, from a mechanical point of view, and see some handling improvement with the springs off of a 2011 SS. Bit I want to lower it. How much drop will SS springs give?

I don't know. Initially in 2010 the V6's rode high in the rear. Chevy fixed that by 2012.
If you want a noticeably lower ride, go aftermarket springs. But as I said before if you're looking for improved/flatter cornering, go with a nice inexpensive FE3 aftermarket sway bar set (BMR is a good way to go) and your vert will surprise you! ![]() |

One last thing to consider- the lowering springs will give a stiffer ride to your 2012. I'm sure your 50th anniversary car has MRC- you've been spoiled.
It was a test drive in a MRC car that convinced me to trade in my modified 2010 (Man I gave away alot of upgrades...!). Keep in mind the sway bars will not effect the comfort of your 2012 ride while improving the handling more than shorter springs. |

![]() ![]() Thanks for the info and pointers, I will probably do both. I want lowering springs more for the look, but a performance bonus is always welcome. Another friend has an almost new set of Hotchkis 1" lowering springs from his 2011 SS. What I should be looking for are brakes. |

What about a 2014? Could I do the same? With that said can I go to the auto parts store and buy the SS replacement?
