Oops, I have a heritage grille so it was easy to mount the SS.

Send me a pictures if you can with your emblem mocked up in place, and show me what exactly you're up against. Maybe I can help. I've done a few different emblem combinations. My experience has been if it doesn't align up exactly in the middle of the grill. It looks better in my opinion slightly higher then lower, and really not noticeable in most cases. My first car the SS 69 emblem in front was slightly higher (see 2nd and 3rd pics). And you were wondering about the posts (secured with metal brackets, and welded on height tabs on the brackets for better alignment so the pale nut sits flush). and now I installed a 2017 bowtie emblem on the front of my 2010 that was slightly higher (first pic). Hope some of these ideas help.
