Gas mileage is always going to be affected the most by stop and go conditions. Thus the reason city driving is always worse on mpg compared to highway driving. This device improves the throttle response the most from a stop. So gas mileage will always suffer even on the lower settings... but probably not as much as the higher settings. By the way, the whole drive by wire design was intended to purposely introduce that lag so that the auto manufacturer can claim better gas mileage on their sales sticker, and possibly meet federal regulations for mpg.

Will a throttle controller improve your et in the 1/4 mile?

That would create a death trap.

The rčal reason for fly-by-wire is fuel injection limitations and drivability issues.

If the manufacture allowed you to stomp the throttle body open the engine would just die, just like carbs due if miss used.

They gave the contol to the ECU so it can determan proper throttle plate opening timing.

That said once developed manufactures realized they could manage other conditions as well with latency.

To answer the question about whether just pushing harder is the same as the VTC, I can tell you that it is not the same. I have tried it and I cannot make pressing hard and fast feel as instant as the VTC. It is just ridiculous how well this thing works. If I turn it off, my car feels so bad I can't even believe it has 400hp. With it on, the power is just so obtainable that it feels like it really should have from the factory. I should mention that I was driving on 9 on really hot humid days which I really feel zap the car's power. But this morning after a cold front, I had to turn it down because the car almost got sideways on me with the cooler road temps and cold dense air.

If you're launching correctly and doing everything else pretty well. No.

This is full of fail right here, I hate to say. The whole introduction of DBW is because of emissions and warranty purposes only. I guess nobody remembers the old Gen III LS1 motors and others that were cable driven. You can stick your foot to the floor and give the engine all of the beans, guess what, it won't flood and stall out. That's the most absurd thing I've ever heard. This is the reason why DBW will always have latency, unless there is a way to control the sample rate of TPS voltage and thereby manipulating the throttle motor to open and close immediately as to the commanded signal.

The answer is no, not one iota. The throttle will only open so much and will only allow so much physical airflow past it. Just because it opens a bit faster, doesn't increase the total volume of air intake to the manifold. Ported TB on the other hand, will make you go quicker. How much really depends. Too many variables.

You're obviously an authority on the subject on the subject and my many years of experience developing software for fuel injection systems has led me astray.

On our superbikes the engines would be unusable and if carbed would be useless. Times have changed.

So what about super bikes that had a throttle cable and carb....

I have to say your theory is full of beans as well. Sounds very dumb.

i must be the only one around here that has the VTC set to EC7 for daily driving and SP9 for when I'm playing around.

My Vmax TB arrives tomorrow, can't wait to put it on and hope the two play nice together.

The 2nd my CAI is arriving. Hoping to get an intake spacer and ported intake mani in the next few weeks as well.

Won't make my little V6 feel like an SS but should add a little more zoom to it.

The V6 is a good motor but it does lack the torque for off the line feel but rolling it's rather impressive. I wanted a good used convertible and this is what I came across first that was 'worth buying'.

This device just makes the 10ths of a second between idle and mash it to floor full response a bit snappier.

Theoretically it could help in the 60ft or 300ft times but at the end of a 1/4 mile track you won't see much of a difference if any at all. But in the world of 1/4 miles, every hundredth of a second you can shave will help

Take this for what's it's worth and you probably thought of it already, but if you have a code reader carry it with you just in case you get the dreaded limp mode.....and if you do you'll know exactly what it is.

I love my TC. It doesn't do anything to add power. What it does is quite simple. It reduces TB opening lag TIME. The TB, controlled by the ECU opens the butterfly at a rate it chooses based on many factors. The TC "fools" the ECU into opening faster for a given throttle input.

When I first got my SS, the rev delay really made me mad. I have my TC set at S5, and I can revmatch so much better now that the engine listens to my foot.

OR. I am totally wrong...................

..you're not wrong... that's the basic idea. But with practice the VTC should be neither here nor there when rev matching... not to say it CAN'T be a factor... .
