Need new all-season tires, help me choose between 3
My BFG T/A Specs have come to the end of their life ... not enough tread left to make it through the winter (or even into winter!).
Getting another set of BFG's is out of the question at over $1,100 mounted/balanced/taxes/out the door. I have looked for some decent all seasons, and I think I've narrowed it down to 3 tires. Number 1: Cooper RS3-G1 Number 2: FALKEN ZIEX ZE950 A/S Number 3: General GMAX A/S-05 I know a true winter tire would be best for the season we're entering now, but there's no way I can swing two different sets of tires and snows have a short lifespan in the summer months and talking the wife into ANOTHER set of tires in a year isn't a pleasant thought. The tire shop recommends the T/A's if I don't want a snow tire, but again, over $1,100 for the set ... I got a price on the FALKENS ($673 out the door) and to me, they look like they have the best tread pattern for the snow, but the shop said since they are W speed rated (even though they are listed as "performance all-season", just like the T/A) they won't do well because the rubber in the tire is meant to handle higher temps without failing. I figure I have less than a month to make the decision ... PLEASE HELP!

Hi Don,
I have been driving on a Set of the new GMAX AS05 for the last several months. I have driven on hundreds of tires. I can personally recommend the new GMAX tire. Rudy |

I use the g max in the winter and wet traction is amazing. I can't speak for the AS-05 because I have the AS-03 but I'm told the 05's are even better than the ones I have.

I had the AS-03's on my last car and loved them, they would be on the Camaro if they made them in our size. For a "Ultra High Performance A/S" they did exceptionally well in bad weather. Of course I DO put ~200 lbs in the trunk for traction.

Not trying to be a snot......but seriously...flip a coin.
For the most part, tires are tires. Like most (known) brands available for our cars....the key is maintaining them, replacing them when needed and driving like a human being. That being said; I have been a long time user of Cooper tires. Good luck with whatever you choose.

There’s a $70 rebate on the GMAX’s thru Oct. 31 as well.
It’s a tough call, each tire has its particular strengths and weaknesses and like you, price has to be a consideration for me also. |

All tires are definitely not created equal. Read the reviews. Talk to people who have the brand you are interested in. Educate yourself, THEN make your decision.

Just put new tires on the car last week. The set I just replaced were the BFG Sport Comp 2. No complaints on them. Got 22,000 miles out of them and don't track the car or spin the tires. Trying out the Goodyear Eagle F1's this time.

My '11 (bought the car used) came with the G-Max A/S-03. According to the receipt that was in the glove box, the tires were bought around 30k miles and the car now has 49k and by looking at the tires you couldn't really tell that there is nearly 20k on them. They have been good in the rain we have gotten and great on dry surfaces as well. Can't speak for snow or anything like that since I bought the car in May and it hasn't snowed here yet.
So while the A/S-05 isn't the same tire, based on the series it is in, I wouldn't hesitate to go with those.
