Thanks Tim & thespymaster;

Man, that sound is awesome. Is not like a high pitch sound. I can't get over the size of the heat exchanger. This thing is huge!

I may very well need axles in the near future, but the budget can only take so much. I'll probably be talking to you in the near future.

No need to go apeshit on the cam, but if you're changing it, you can do better.
This is exactly the debate Tim and I have been having. My intent is to get as much out of the car without affecting the reliability or ride quality. For those of you in the same boat, here is our logic.

The LS9 is a stock OEM cam. It was engineered extensively by GM and will add the least amount of stress to the motor. Yes you do save the cost of the springs but that is negligible because on a cam the majority of the cost is labor unless you DIY. Trust me with what a supercharger, headers, etc cost, $300 is not a huge difference.

We initially speced a comp cam grind similar to ADM's Stage 2 camshaft. I think it was in the range 0f 220/230 with a 115 centerline. I can't remember for sure so don't hold me to that. Tim actually has it sitting on his shelf. That is what we initially were going with.

We spoke with Whipple about their recommendation for a cam swap. We were told that they have used the LS9 cam in their test vehicles and have gotten gains of roughly 70hp. Now this sounds overly optimistic compared to what other shops have seen with this cam. I have always been told 20-25 rwhp. But Whipple has been spot on with everything else they have told us.

Tim and I agree that it can't hurt to try it. If we can get those kinds of gains in conjunction with the other mods why run a more aggressive cam?

Tim has been very straight forward on this. I think this is the best benefit of working with a smaller shop. He ordered the custom cam and then the LS9, both on my request. I am new to modding and have done most of my research here on Camaro5. I have had a ton of questions and have changed my mind a lot. Never any pressure from Tim. I think he has been laughing on the inside, watching me try to get past spending the money. Eventually I get over it and he puts the parts on.

For now we're going with the LS9.

Ok, so all I really want to know at this point is how do I get one. I haven't seen anything to indicate on their website that it's shipping nor any other website that's it's in stock. Calling people up is not a great option att due to my current location which is somewhere south of Kabul, Afghanistan. I was hoping to have one waiting for me by the time my 2ss comes in around December. That's when I go on leave to pick up the car and get some installs/tune done.

South of Kabul Afghanistan?? Are you in the Army or private contractor? Im currently in Camp Phoenix Afghanistan, and am headed to Camp Shank in two weeks.

Back to the Whipple, I would love to have one of these on a LSX427!! Im still working on the details of the 427, but the way things are looking with this Whipple I cant wait to see what kinda power they pull outa this build!

I have been getting questions about the build via pm. As of yesterday, the headers were installed. We are still waiting for the cam to arrive. It will probably come in Monday.

We have already been test fitting cold air intakes. We ordered the injen kit, but it did not fit the whipple. It fit fine at the supercharger, the problem was that since the whipple sits higher, the mounting brackets that came with it no longer match up. We tried the fastlane CAI from Tim's car and it will work, but it isn't in stock. Roto fab will come in next week, we will see if that fits.

The plan is to finish the mods and then dyno and tune.

Wise man. Sounds as if you have a plan and are following it. The Comp Cam on your shelf is almost exactly what I'm using 219/231 .607/.617 115LSA. It has a rougher idle, but no real drivability issues. Works great with an M6. Wouldn't recommend it with an A6 and stock converter though.

Army (I only wish I was a contractor) and currently on FOB Shank with 173d (sry for the thread jack)

I can't wait to see the end results after all these mods sounds like north of 600 RWHP so far.

I'm interested to know about the roto-fab since I already have it and plan on going with a whipple soon.
