I agree with you. The aftermarket goodies and power is a great idea, but they can kill your warranty. But, I guess if you have the bucks to build it in the first place, maybe you don't need to worry about the warranty... I think the most exciting part is that now WE have a factory answer to the the shelby issue!!

This is do-able.

Just honestly stop and think about it. What other vehicle does Ford have that has the same gear as the GT-500? None.

GM has the Caddy CTS-V coupe, sedan and wagon.

A lot of the development costs were eaten up on the Cadillac budget, the savings get passed on to the Chevy.

WHAT THIS GUY SAID

Anyone who pays more than msrp for this car is an idiot. If mark up puts this car at 60k you are in the territory of a zo6. I have seen brand new z's for as low as 62k brand new. c6 zo6 is the king. A stock z will stomp a mudhole in a ZL1 that I prormise you. Make no mistake I love the ZL1 and would buy one for 47k but not a penny more. I think dealers will be in for a rude awakening trying to mark this thing up because anyone with a half a brain would say " F you I can get a zo6 for that price" Sure the first ones out will sell with a mark up but I am betting the mark ups dont last for more than a couple months if that.

True, but the GT500 also does not have alot of the extra goodies this car will have. As for the GT500's being a base of $48,xxx, all the coupes sticker at around $55,000 on the lot by my house. Not sure what options those have to get them there. As I stated in my last post, the dealer is also throwing a premium on them. My friends buddy picked a 2011 a few months back and he paid $60,000.

I had a Z06 and it's one of the best cars for the money. There is no comparison between Z06 and Camaro. Z06 is in a different class from look to handling and prestige. The problem arises, when after six months you start getting the itch for more power and that gets expensive very quickly. You pay the Z06 tax everywhere you go. Anytime you go to a shop and they see the Z06 come in, here comes the $$$ for them and it gets tiring fast when you realize [almost] everyone is trying to milk you.
The second part is that, that engine is not boost friendly at all. It's high compression with a fragile piston. You can spent $10 F/I on it just to add 5lb of boost. Not worth the little more HP you get out of it.

So, to my experience, if I go back to Z06 again, I'll keep it NA and enjoy it as is, because I wasted a lot of money trying to get more power out of it. In case of ZL1, it has a lot more room for growth.

But, you will love driving a Z06...

Yep, and that's why I highlighted STARTING price. My dealer will NOT be doing premium pricing AND they will take ALL discounts on them, but I will not be trading in my SS.

I wonder if they will treat it more like a higher scale car. like the 2010 CTSV which comes with a 4 year 50,000 warrenty and a price tage of 47,350 base. I"m sure they will also have an auto which should increase the price by 1200. Question? will it have some type of RS package like the SS? or will the base ZL1 come with somthing similar as the RS package. Just some thoughts.

ok sop whats your point, my dealer here in mt pleasant ain't adding no markup and any dealer still putting a markup on a car easy to get at this point is dumb anyways. Your dealer don't represent all dealers so your point isn't really valid. I paid under sticker on my 2010 when it came out and I was the first one that arrived at my dealer when I ordered, so why is it hard for you to believe the same won't happen this time around.

Point being, just cause you have stupid dealers in your area doesn't mean the car can't or wont start at a base price of 47-48. Like its been said all these features are from other cars and the R&D has already been spent prior to this car so its very easy for them to put the whole package together and sale it at a similar price of the GT500. oh and by the way my dealer has a 2011 GT500 on the lot going for 46795 and no markup, sooooooooooo.

Base $47,000, plus options, gas guzzler tax and state tax. Probably around $55,000+. Not including dealer markup^^^^

Remember when the new Z06 body style came out and the Shelby GT 500, the dealers had them marked up around $10,000 over MSRP and some were selling around that price. Getting your dream with a warranty...lots of people will jump on it.

Chevy wants to out sell the other companies but they're not going to give away the ZL1!

There wont be a gas guzzler tax, GM has that worked out so forget about that. And really what options do you really think is gonna be on this. All I can think of is Suede instead of leather and automatic if they add that. Everything else about this car will be loaded.

I would not be sure about no gas guzzler tax, in fact I would go so far as to say you are downright wrong. But we will see, and I hope you are right and can lay a big "I told you so" on me in q4 of this year.
