They don't mean allocated. Their guide number is probably waht they'te talking about. It means they have 6 total between now and October but will take 2 additional orders in case of a cancellation.

the second one said that they have no pre orders in yet and i would be the first...i mean its great news...but you know the saying when something sounds too good to be true it usually is...do you think its possible? do you think they are telling me the truth? should i trust their word? what should i do?!

It's possible that they have no orders and if you can be the first, how many are they getting (guide number) between now and October??

and the third dealer said he had 10 allocations and only had a couple orders in...whether it be 2 or 5, making me 3rd or 7th...when do you think i would get the car? i just want it by July. Make things easier on this one...if i was his 10th order with a total allocation of 10...do you think i would i see the car before July?

Again, his guide number is 10. Allocation is what you get in a 4 week period after consensus. The idea is to get a dealer who has few orders and you can get high on the list.

Dang, this is a lot of typing after a 9 to 9 day.

BTW, if you still don't understand my answers, feel free to PM me to keep the thread on track.

That being said, the final allocation for this month still has another week to go. The dealer can run his final allocation report and see if there is a Camaro to modify by Tuesday. He will know if he runs a Pass One (now you know what that is) either Thursday, Friday or Saturday. Again, a salesperson ust may not know and his manager does. That's probably what's going on.
Meaning 3/12 is the last Pass One for the initial allocations?

My dealer told me 3/12 for "pull" a couple of weeks back when the March consensus was announced.

I'd put it in a PM but I think other people would like the answer.

So could/does a dealer just ask for 50 cars or something absurd in this situation? I know they can keep dreaming as GM won't give them that many but is this basically how it works? When do they get the response to this request? Is the response called "allocation"? And that tells them how many they'll get each week and which week they'll get it?

I'll have to post a screen shot of what the "Final Allocation" report looks like to make it easier to understand.

Whatever orders that have to be modified this coming Tuesday, will show up in Pass One tomorrow thru Saturday. If the dealer has no allocation, then there will be no orders to modify on Tuesday.

You could ask for as many as you want. The only problem is you only "earn" so many based upon prior sales history and performance. The only response you get is in your "Final Allocation". You see, GM gives you "estimated shipments" and then you base your "consnensus" on that number. Say you have 15 estimated shipments of Cobalts. You may only want 5. They can give you no more or less than 10% above or below that number you asked for. If other dealers ask for more Cobalts and GM covers what needs to be built, they probably won't stick you with more than you asked for. But if no other dealers want Cobalts and you asked for 5, they will stick you with another 1.

So with a Camaro, everybody wants them. So if you have an estimated shipment of 1, and you ask for 10, you have to assume that other dealers will not take the ones they have earned for you to get the extra 9. But we know that's not happening. that's why you can ask for a hot product but you won't get it because everyone wants their share.

WHEW!

RPO_Z28, you are full of wonderful and great information. I think I could now walk into a dealership, buy it, and run it by myself. Thxs!

This thread is beyond deserving of a sticky. Thanks RPO! I have a feeling we'll be telling people to read this thread for a long time going forward. Shoot, even for future "hot" cars, this info should still apply.

So next question... when did/do dealers get their "estimated shipments?"

okay, thats a bunch of great information i have been reading for almost 2hrs page 1-6 RPO ur da man thanks for what you do,

I have a few quetions i am with i guess a small dealer and they have 7 slots i was #4 but two have supposedly been pulled, my GM workbench says priority 2 and they said after the other gets pulled its me, My question is would there be a chance they will pull both this week or is it a better chance that i will wait till the end of march before i hear anything

Also, isnt the prices updated in the workbench, my dealer says its not there,
Sorry to be of track
But thanks in advance

Two being pulled out of a total of 7 for March build? Highly unlikely; possible; but highly unlikely. How could you be at priority #2 when you were in slot #4? Were you originally priority #4 and now since two were pulled they "reprioritized" you to #2 ? Just need a little more clarification before I make a statement...

I highly doubt they would get 2 orders in one week. Your dealer should know the answer for this week and next. More likely that they'll be spread out. End of March, noone knows. Your dealer would be the best source once they get their final allocation information for the next cycle (next week apparently).

I'm not certain that pricing is there for existing orders but I KNOW it's there for new orders. So if it's not showing on your workbench sheet they could always fire up a new order with the same specs and see what it comes down to. But it really shouldn't matter as the numbers are confirmed to be the same as the ones we've had all along so you can do the math yourself (with the help of the calculator spreadsheet to make it easier).
