Must agree with above post. Here in LA, non of the agencies really stop you for it except for the Hwy Patrols. I will be putting mine under my drivers seat in the meantime.

I got pulled over by highway patrol while I was in my civic years back because I didn't have mine on. However I told the officer that one of the bolts to hold it on sheared off and I wasn't able to fix it before my trip. Liiiieeessss.....

She let me go.

For the Camaro I told the dealer not to install the mounting plate but they did so I guess I'm stuck with it. I was going to do a side lower grill mount.

Had I bought new and/or from the factory I would have made it a requirment, over time I have grown to not like the holes and since I like the Pace rally stripes I figured that filling them and covering them would work good for me and add a distinctive look to miy car.

After a friendly warning from the local gendarme, I decided not to push my luck and installed my front plate. GM should offer a better integrated design on the front fascia for installing the plate, instead of the ugly black wart.

Mine's sitting in my glove box. Never been pulled over for it, but occasionally the guards at the main gate of the installation will mention that it's required. They don't have the authority to write a ticket for it so I just tell them, "Yeah, I know, but I'm not drilling holes in my bumper." They'll either respond with "Man, I don't blame you!" or "Sir, you know that's an $80 ticket if you get pulled over, right?"

Whatevs...

I was pulled over in my car after a week by a police officer on foot. He asked me why I didn't have my plate, I told him I just bought the car and it didn't come with one (Well it did but I didn't want it put on) He gave me my paper work and let me continue on my way. I've been considering getting one but I really do not want to. I've already been from New York to Philadelphia twice and Long Island without being bothered. It's probably going to take a ticket to get me to actually put a plate on.

It's nice to live in Ct where it's the law but generally not enforced.
About one in 10 cars here doesn't have a front plate.
