I like the glossy look of the stripes. Mine has the regular rally stripe decals, but i think i might switch to a painted glossy set in a while.

The beautiful thing about it is that we are all going to make the car what we want it to be and the aftermarket is going to support whatever we want. I do think that the front stripes are to narrow and the rear looks menacing. Get used to it Mustang owners! Haha!

Tom Henry stripes?

Looked at your custom painted on stripes and like them...any idea on a price for the hood and trunk/spoiler stripes...but not including the painted out back deck?

Tom; try a thicker pinstripe. Thin looks wimpy on this car because the wide, horizontal theme is so strong. I've attached a snapshot of your pic that shows a thicker pinstripe. I circled the one part where I only thickened it halfway so you could see the difference.

I think because the main black stripe is so wide and bold it needs a stronger trim stripe next to it.

I've also done something on a silver car overhead that shows what I think is very nearly the best width; go wider and it starts to look too heavy, go narrower and it looks too weak. The key width seems to be the outside point where the hood bulge near the windshield meets the flat part of the hood. When you follow that width all the way back and on the rear of the car, it leaves just enough space between the stripe and the inside rear tail lights to compliment the space between the inner and outer tail light, and the illusion of space to the outside of the tail lights. A very fine balance in there with hardly any fudge room.

As usual, Scott, you are correct. I think Tom Henry did a nice job, and I like the satin black out rear panel. Now all we need are engine callout emblems....

Tom,
This is the paint scheme I would like you to use between the tail lights in gloss black when my Camaro arrives. It was good talking to you again yesterday.

It was a gloss black. Perhaps not full gloss but not flat black. I suggest you do some research or speak with Jerry McNeish, John Hinckley, Mark Canning, Kurt Sonen or Steve Shauger as I regularily do.

No disrespect intended. I'm not a person who needs to know everything there is to know about a Camaro so, who are these people you are talking about?

They are 1st gen gurus and top tier judges. Nobody here has more knowledge then these men when it comes to 67-69 Camaros.

Hylton,
Again, no offense and I am not disputing the validity of gurus and judges. I would really like to know if they base their judgements on knowledge or is there any reality involved. The reason I make this statement is I would like to know if any of them actually ORDERED a 1st gen big block themselves? I did, 41 years ago in '68. After about 6 weeks it arrived from GM at the dealership and the back was satin black. Maybe there is just a discrepency in using the term "satin". You stated that "perhaps not full gloss but not flat black". You are absolutely correct. Back in the day, the term for that sheen of paint was referred to as "satin".

Steve Shauger bases his inforrmation on his many years appraising and judging survivor cars which have zero paint work. He believes the finish is 80% gloss. Brian Henderson who is owner of Supercar Workshop and is among the leading 1st generation restorers and judges, believes the finish is closer to 100% gloss. Feel free to contact them personally. They are easy to find.

If you look at a car can you actually tell it has had zero paint work? I mean to see through the paint.
Just because someone is very good at restoring a car doesn't mean they know everything original about it.
All I asked is if they had any actual experience of ordering a big block in '68
and Actually seeing the sheen of the black paint as I did when I picked up my Camaro at the dealership.
I saw a restored Camaro display from the Crawford Auto Museum and found more than a couple discrepancies on it. I do not believe in going to extremes. You believe what you want to believe, I can't change that. All I can say is that I know It is what it is and it was satin black, not only on the day of delivery but, also the two years I looked at that back until I sold it.
