I am not trying to cover up my mistake, and was being humble and showing concern. I am 28, and my ZL1 is #3802 of that at all matters. I went about it the right way IMO, you guys act like it was a big huge ordeal, when it wasn't. It didn't hit hard and the plastic bumper was cracked and the headlight broke and the curb bent my lower control arm. I caught some curbage and that was it. I did not feel the need to call the cops, and I am 28, having an at fault accident in my record with 4 cars on my insurance and a ZL1 makes a huge difference. The bumper was $500 for everything and I bought a headlight from a guy on here for $325 and my control arm was $60. That is cheaper than my deductible and now I just need paint and it will be done.
Dude good Luck on your car and repairs , Dont let some on here bother you , They all like to play detective. I only read about 2 pages and all I got to say is leave this guy alone, He hit the key with his knee, Thats why they have a recall, Myself I cant touch it if I tried , that still doesnt make your story BS like others said , Keep rockin the Camaro brother

So long story short, I was on my lunch break on my way home @ around 3am (I work at night) and was only going 25. I did not even realize anything until it was too late. I ended up with damage to my front fascia, 3/4 wheels, bent my lower control arm and broke my driver side headlight.

I was really embarrassed about it, as I had no idea that this was a safety issue at the time (June 1st). My wife made fun of me about it, and the guys at work couldn't believe that something like that could happen. I ended up starting to piece my car back together, buying the bumper pieces, a new headlight, and lower control arm etc. Rims are another story... This stuff gets pricey and I did not want to claim it on my insurance, so I am still in the midst of getting it fixed.

I already have a case open with GM, so they should cover the damage (hopefully). I am 6'2 and my knee sits almost perfectly with where my key is. If you guys have not gotten your key changed out, do so. I did this to my ZL1, and now have to fight with GM on who's fault it is and prove to them my case.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Can you just understand , that April's foolsday is gone for the year !

I don't have any pics of what the car looked like until I put the new bumper on, I do still have all of the pieces of the car and have to take pictures of them anyway. I will post them up tomorrow, I am at work until 8am.

My Cobalt had electric power steering and it went out in West Virginia. Other than the light it drove fine on the interstate, through the town of Lewisburg it was a little firm. When I pulled in to park at Bill Lewis Chevrolet I could tell it was out. I was driving to Iowa from Virginia and they had me in and out in less than an hour. It apparently overheated and needed resetting. So loosing electric power steering is no reason to crash.

Don't forget you also lose power brakes as well.

This is a strange story.. But anything is possible, I guess.. I'm 6 feet on the dot and when I drive my wife's RS that is a manual, I bring the seat up closer because I feel like I'm fully engaging the clutch better.. But even then I'm no where near the key..
