We're not low-class yet, but with the middle-class disappearing, we're getting there. But that's a different discussion for a different thread.

I support your friend and the old school, to a point, but that old school mentality has also gotten us newer law enforcement into a jam, thanks to those who abused their authority, to the point the criminals now often have more rights and defense for their actions than we do. And believe me, where I am, it DOES feel like 95% of my job is picking up the mess the criminals leave behind.

Again, sorry for the misunderstanding.

And that car is really only missing one thing. Pop-out submachine guns, a la the Batmobile... That would clean up the streets pretty fast...
No harm no foul. My buddy laments things changing before his eyes yet I would solidly recommend his prowess and authority on all matters pertaining to law enforcement. He also would like to see more pro-active measures be taken by various departments. His jurisdiction borders on Philly and the overflow riff-raff often ends up on his doorstep. As for the compensation end of the deal, if you can maintain what you've got now, in a deflationary spiral, maybe things'll seem rosier as any recovery gains traction. Be careful out on those mean streets. It does not seem to be just random violence any longer. There almost seems a pathology to the matter. I can't even watch the evening news anymore.

The best to you and my apologies for making what I now consider to be a knee-jerk and gratuitous statement in the first place.

I saw the car to....... It looked like it was getting fueled up. It was sitting on the median on the AC expressway right before the Egg Harbor Tolls.

[QUOTE=Shifty 6;1033698]For all of you too stupid or ignorant to see what the big deal is....your stupid or ignorant! And for the police out there that think you should have a nice comfy car to drive.....YES! you should. And thank you for keeping my streets safe at night (and during the day). But please I am begging you....explain to me how a rational thinking person feels our tax dollars should go towards $6-7,000 in cosmetic upgrades that add no value other than bling factor?

WHAT UPGRADES are you referring to...this car was LOANED to NJSP for a benefit for ONE DAY. NJSP doesnt own it nor did they pay for the 22 /RS upgrade......READ ALL THE POSTS in the thread before "ranting" to early ones....................

You're getting yourself all worked up for nothing.....

Well just were the hell does Federal Grant Monies come from??? DUH, TAXES!!!!! Some people just don't understand the whole picture. Never will either. Scary to think some of them are actual police men and women.
I was referring to the N.J. State Tax monies being supplemented by FED cash... since everyone was commenting on NEW JERSEY STATE POLICE Cars..

And FYI ...since you live in Pittsburgh, you, (as a an apparent self proclaimed educated person) may be happy to know that there are also thousands of dollars being funded by Insurance companies to the Penna Auto Theft Prevention Authority, that funds cars, manpower and equipment to various Police Depts.

I for one am happy to see some of my hard earned tax monies (whether State or Fed) being spent on productive positive things that are going to improve the safety of my community rather than paying those that for many years live off the teet of the govt because they are too lazy to get an honest job.

That was my point.

Sorry, little well-deserved rant from a law enforcement officer on behalf of all of us out there. Oh, not to mention the job we perform for well below what we deserve... Please don't mistake this as a defense for police corruption though. I know it's out there, and I see it even in my own agency in ways, although not necessarily financial...

All that aside, very nice cruiser. I certainly wouldn't mind having that for mine.

This 2010 Camaro SS was used in a Toys for Tot's Corvette Fundraiser sponsored by Kerbeck Chevrolet in Atlantic City, NJ. I attended this event and for the last 6 years. The Camaro was the owner's personal car that was loaned and lettered for the NJSP to use for ONE day only!!!!! No taxpayer money used!! Kerbeck Chevrolet should be given the credit for not only supporting this great charity but also for supporting all the Chevrolet Corvette and Camaro owners in the world!!!!!!

I see you live in South Jersey - have you attended any of the state auctions? The Expressway held one about 4 weeks ago. I wouldn't put my family in any of those cars. With the exception of the vehicles totaled in an accident, they all have well over 120,000 severe service (pronounced BEAT) miles and begin to cost too much to maintain. How many times a day do you go from a standing start to 100 and back to zero within a mile?

Trans, motors, rears, axles, brake rotors, exhaust all begin to go around 35-40K miles. Seems low - but consider how many hours they sit, idling and breathing in their own exhaust. And when they go on the road uninspected - that's unsafe and illegal, as they are supposed to go through inspection after they change ownership. Remember the little pink card no one puts in the windshield after they buy/register one of these rigs?

The vast majority of the FCV go to taxi companies and others for the drive train & parts!

The closest thing NJ Troopers have ever had to the HiPo vehicles was the Chevy Lumina. And the Lumina was so ridiculous, it never made it to marked car status and was relegated to plain clothes use. The last big block disappeared from the toll roads around 1978 (Pontiacs) and the Troops (Ford 460). The Tahoe is used primarily to transport commercial vehicle inspection teams and a lot of that comes from Fed grant $; and for winter weather (4X4).

If I missed any of your points let me know - but can we get back to when a true Z-28 convertible option will be available?

My two-cents.
I'm amazed this thread reached someone involved to set it strait... The power of the internet. I still think you should let Corzine take it for a drive on the turnpike though...

Being former Law enforcement myself, LE has always had some type of "pursuit" vehicles, they had a 3rd & 4th Gen Camaro factory Police package. Mustangs the same from the late 80's until 2000 something. So I'm sure a Challenger & 5th Gen Camaro package is probably in the pipes...

But I do want to comment on one thing. I've NEVER seen a slick top with ANY forward markings on it. ESPECIALLY big white letters in reverse on the windshield!! So hey - if it's actually a Patrol Unit, and not a PR Ride - let's thank them for marking the front of it for us! LOL
