Let me share my driving habits vs. MPG with you. I have about a 30 mile one way commute, 10 of those miles are interstate and the rest is through 2 small towns. So for the first 10 miles its from 45 - 55 MPH and then its onto the interstate.... the on ramp is a blast, I'm usually at about 85MPH before I'm wheels on the interstate, then I slow to 75 for the 10 mile ride. The last 10 miles are 30 - 45 MPH. This pattern is a 4 day a week ritual for me and I've consistently gotten 24.8MPG for 7 months.
I've made one road trip that was about 500 miles of hi way driving and that trip yielded me 28 MPG average coming and going with air conditioning going full blast.
My opinion of this discussion would be: Ask yourself "why" do I want a V8, if you're satisfied with your answer then thats the car you should buy, If your answer doesn't justify the gas waste that you're having issues with go with the 2LT. Keep us posted no matter what your decision is and post pictures ASAP!

Gas mileage

I have a 2ss manual and get 26 mpg on the freeway at 70 mph, thats not bad for a car that has 426 HP. I had a 02 Harley truck that if I was lucky got maybe 18 on the freeway.

-A V8 engine in an LS trim for an LS price
-Fuel Economy of an LT/LS in an SS trim
-Blue-Tooth as a native option in an 1LT/1SS
-Leather Interior in an LS/1LT/1SS
-Speed and Performance of an SS trim in an LT/LS trim
-4 Rotatable tires extending the tire life of SS trim Camaros natively
-Spare Tire Option in an SS trim as opposed to an LS/LT trim

The list of comparisons is virtually endless.

This "cock-fighting" is meaningless between owners and the trims they chose. When you buy a vehicle, you need to realistically think about what you are buying it for besides the given, "transportation." I suppose you could apply the same argument with the "What Watch Do you Wear When Driving Your Camaro" thread several weeks back. Watches? Check. They all tell time? Check. Does your watch work underwater? Yes. Does rad's watch work underwater? No. What does this mean? My watch is superior to rad's watch because I can shallow dive up to 500 feet underwater and still tell time, whereas rad is out of luck. Maybe rad can't swim? Does all of this really matter?! No!! That is why this ego trip amongst ourselves is pointless.

The only owners that have regret are those that bought a trim level of the car and realized that they did not bother to think their situations through completely. When you buy a new car, and have to change the way you live drastically to make the car you really want work, you are probably buying the wrong car/trim. Respect yourselves and you'll respect others in turn. No choice of Camaro is a bad one folks.

My other two vehicles are SUV's (i work in demolition) and decided that a V-6 was perfect. After my test drive I was very pleased with the handeling and performance and price of the LS. I wanted to put my choice of rims and whatever mods I want and I am still far below the cost of even a 2LT with the GM rim package. I appreciate all Camaros and maybe one day I will buy a V-8 but for now I am very happy.

For me there was never a question as to which engine option to pick.

I mean c'mon......it's a Camaro.

That's the best I've heard. You really know how to drive.

I never even considered an LT, it was SS from the git go! Great gas mileage for a 426hp sports car so a few mpg differance between the SS & LT didn't matter to me! I was able to afford it so I went for the gusto and got the 2SS and glad I did!

That's it! I'm NOT SATISFIED with my reasons for the V8 although I want one. I am, however, satisfied with my reasons for the V6. But I'm swayed by the consensus here.

I got the 1SS 'cause I needed to "go green" in my garage the, the Hummer and the Silverado just weren't cutting itOnly the Harley gets better mileage. Seriously, we did look at a 2LT and the car was beautiful, wife really liked it, I pretty much had my mind made up on the V8 and the wife and I both just liked the sound and acceleration of the V8 better.

No regrets at all. And I don't consider the lower gas mileage a waste as someone alluded to earlier.

Ive got another month before I order mine, which will be a 2LT/RS. I have no other reason to get the 2LT over the 2SS except price. I would definantely get the 2SS if I thought I could Cough up another 7g's but thats not financially possible for me. Plus, Im never really going to use the extra 122 HP anyway, so Im just fine with the 2LT

If I had the money to afford the car as well as gas/insurance, I would of gotten the SS. However, I'm (going to be) totally happy with the 2LT and I'm not second guessing my choice at all. 300 HP is plenty for me.
