I agree, center the bowtie. I got the grill to get rid of it however.

Alternate bow-tie and SS mounting

I took a different approach to the bow-tie and SS emblem mounting. For the bow-tie, I broke out the vertical tabs from the center, then drilled two small (7/64) holes at the base of the horizontal tabs. I then ran small black tie wraps through the holes and zip-tied the bow-tie to the grill. I worried about retainer clips coming off. This approach is solid and won't mar the grill if I decide to take it off.

For the SS emblem, I bought the stock emblem and plastic mount and then cut and trimmed the mount to "snap" under the lip of the horizontal grill bar. The numbers in the picture are where I cut it. #3 goes around the vertical brace in the grill. It worked out pretty well. I tie-wrapped it for good measure but it snaps into place pretty well. I like it because it provides a "borderless" mount. I could do a better job if I had another to cut on but I'm happy with it.

Parts (from a place where you can get GM Parts Direct - shipping/handling included):

92208704 - Grille insert assembly - $222.04
92194260 - Bowtie - $37.63
92225495 - SS (red) - $13.26
92225407 - Nameplate bracket - $4.47

The worst part of the whole thing was that the bow-tie and SS emblem were both stickered: MADE IN KOREA

There's always another way to skin a cat so I thought I'd share. Pics below:

Looks like a good way to go! Now you just need to get it on the car.

I think no matter what color your car is, the grill looks best in black, even a glossy black! I would also run it with no emblems!

But that is just me...

is the bow tie on upside down? it looks like the "Wings" of it are going uphill compared to the slats in the grill, I would think it would look better if you turned it over.[/I]

The bowtie is shaped to fit the stock grill. Since the heritage grill is more recessed and a slightly different face angle, cannot match the bowtie exactly.

The bowtie will look like it's "sad" as my wife described it. The wing tilts downward. The original mount position looks better even if it tilts slight upward. I like 3Bvert mount alternative. Still undecided on bowtie, SS, or both.

I've gone back and forth but it seems to fit better they way I have it. Now your gonna make me pull it off and try it the other way again! Better now than when it's on the car.

The judgement is in...

After further review, I'm going to stay with the "smiley" orientation. It looks like it was good enough for the Indy pace car so it's good enough for me. Not to mention that it just fits better that way.

Thanks for pointing it out though. I'd much rather make that decision now than for someone to point it out after I've got the grille installed and find out that I wasn't happy with it.

What do ya'll think on the Rally Yellow car with gloss black stripes? I am leaning towards leaving it not painted. What is your thoughts?

Well My opinion is why get one if it does not make much difference in the appearance from stock? From a distance non painted will look close to not even having the Grill in at all...

I like mine painted, But if you like it unpainted better then go for it...

Well here's my 2 cents. Put it in this past weekend. Bought the 69 SS and had to bend it ever so slightly out to get it flush.
