Nope, can't keep the nannies on even with a tune :(

Hmmm.... I'm going to have to consider this

Rather than buying the small sidewall stickies out back and then having to buy new 18" tires up front, wouldnt it just be cheaper to buy a set of proper diameter tires out back?

Also, I'm not following how the computer knows your have a different diameter tires and thus turning the nannies off? Can someone explain that part?

Well if I bought proper wheels and tires for the back I would be looking to spend at least 1000 easy. If I buy tires for the back, it's 550 for those and then I could do like 100 for two used 18" tires. so thats a big difference.

The computer will throw codes and automatically shut down traction control, stabilitrak, and ABS when it senses that the diameter of the tires is off by more than 6%. Since this would be a big difference, the nannies would be turned off

As far as I see it.

-This route is almost 50% of the cost of the next best set up
-I think it will provide all the traction a 12-13 car will need
-It simulates a gear ratio change
-Its pretty much the lightest set up you could go with without getting extremely expensive 17 inch rims

So in summation: Cheaper, Faster, Better

First time at the Track

Okay here are the results of my first time at the Drag strip. I had stock tires on and no positrack. The first attempt was not so good. My left rear tire was spinning out for thr first 1/8 mile too much peddle The second I started off with less pedal results were much better

Start by reading the LLT V6 section.

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=38

Headers, CAI, Ported throttle body, Exhaust, Tune, Black - Icolator, the lsit can continue.

Here is a link to my build that will show you a way to spend some money.

Is this a manual or auto car?

You're going to need tires on a FI car. That 104 trap speed is good for low 13s.

not so sure of that... Look at V6owner's stats... he trapped at 109 MPH but only ran a 13.1... and he's running good tires and says he hooks...

Our 2 fastest bolt on cars ran 13.4s at 101 and 103. There are a lot of factors involved but a car that can trap that speed is capable of a low 13 run for sure. It also depends on if the car is auto or manual as slow or too early shifts can influence the run.

I go for fun with Gen5 camaro buddies. I usually got with a 1/4 tank of shell premium or a little more than a 1/4 of a tank. I leave everything inside trunk and such. I am going this Friday night for the 2nd to last Midnight Madness. Hoping to hit 14.2 or lower again like I did in beginning of season since I had less mods then.

How to hug your camaro
Buy the car that you would most like to get beat in. The other guy will always be faster.

I guess I need to get a tune it looks like. That or hope the cold weather shows up soon. I still haven't managed to do better than 14.31 yet and I've got CAI w/scoop, cat-back, TB, and stock RS wheels/tires. Don't think I've trapped any better than 98, maybe 99.

My record time was set in Valdosta back in May, so it was kinda warm, and the last time I was at the track a couple weekends ago I hit 14.37, also still warm. I average in the 14.5 area +/- and my 60' times are generally between 2.1 and 2.3 (could be better, obv).

I've tried launching with nannies on as has been suggested and I've found that to be a bad idea, for me at least. Pretty much instant power loss at launch or at least it felt that way last time. I was also spinning out pretty bad on most of my runs other than the first half of the day and even lowering the psi down to 30 didn't seem to help.

Oh well, every day, every track, every car, and every run is all just a little different. I want to hit 13.99 or better and the vibe I'm getting from this thread seems to suggest that should be easily possible.

Drop the rears to 23-25 pounds, 30 isn't going to do much. Leave the fronts at 34-36, 38 is too much imo. But definitely lower the back way more.

Need to heat those stock tires up. Perform a good burnout and get them hot. Don't be afraid to smoke the tires.
